Story DetailsOnline gaming may be fun, but to game companies like ZhengTu Network Technology Ltd., it’s serious business. ZhengTu Network is now treading on the heels of market leaders Shanda and NetEase to become the third-largest Chinese online game company. ZhengTu Network has attracted more than 1,050,000 concurrent users for its popular Road game from more than 40,000,000 registered users. The company’s annual revenue is expected to soon pass USD 10 million, accounting for 15 percent of the total income for China’s online game market. In only two years after its founding, ZhengTu Network is successfully competing with other domestic online game companies such as Ninetowns, Kingsoft, Snail Game, and Object. The company is venture capital funded and has begun the NASDAQ IPO process. ZhengTu Network used to run its application server, MySQL database server and Tomcat software on the Linux operating system. However, with the enormous growth in the number of concurrent users, both performance and reliability suffered. To help address these issues, ZhengTu Network turned to Sun Microsystems. Sun helped the company migrate to the Solaris 10 Operating System from Linux and helped to optimize the Solaris Operating System for ZhengTu's needs. The company also selected the highly secure, reliable, and easy to use Java server. The Java server is well suited for medium-to-large Web-based applications and provides ZhengTu Network with a single platform that includes Web services, Java Server Pages technology, and the Java Servlet. The Solaris 10 Operating System gave ZhengTu Network a high level of reliability and security and a simple, cross-platform solution that protects the company’s investment. By using Solaris 10 and recompiling the source program, for example, ZhengTu Network’s users can run the original software, saving ZhengTu Network from the need to purchase new software. System performance, stability, and reliability have improved markedly. Performance has increased by more than 50 percent, delivering a smooth user experience. ZhengTu Network has also been able to complete projects faster. What’s more, through data analysis, ZhengTu Network has gained valuable information for game design, marketing, and management decision-making. The company can get a better understanding of it users and their preferences, as well as gain insights into dynamic performance and ways to improve games. Finally, ZhengTu Network has created blogs to support the growth and development of online gaming communities. The blogs are popular, sparking more user interest and stimulating the gaming environment. With its Sun solution, ZhengTu Network can move ahead with confidence. Road and other online games are likely to provide fun for even more users through a gaming platform that can reliably scale up to support user demand. |
