Story Details

CGI-AMS provides business and IT consulting services to a worldwide customer base, and develops and licenses software for the telecommunications industry, including eight of the 10 largest telecommunications service providers in the world. AMS Tapestry Billing and Order Management Software, developed by the company’s Denver product group, is used in very high-volume billing environments. "Because our applications are mission-critical to our customers, our ability to deliver fixes in a matter of hours is a competitive advantage," says Rene Sotola, Executive Consultant for CGI-AMS.

By consolidating from multiple servers to one Sun Fire 15K server with Dynamic System Domains, CGI-AMS met its business goals for reduced system administration costs and increased developer productivity. "We reduced system administration costs because we can now perform routine tasks on one server instead of seven," says Sotola. "By consolidating all servers to one Sun Fire 15K server, we reduced the workload and therefore avoided the expense of adding staff. And with the ability to process the same billing volume on fewer servers, our customers reduce their total cost of ownership, including both hardware costs and system administration costs."

" The Sun Fire 15K delivers business value to CGI-AMS with its Dynamic System Domains and by enabling us to mix different processors in the same server. We’re meeting today's development and support needs and are positioned for tomorrow's "
— Rene Sotola, Executive Consultant, CGI-AMS

As CGI-AMS develops more products, the Sun Fire 15K server reduces the cost of growth. "With the Sun Fire 15K, we can increase development capacity simply by adding CPU boards instead of purchasing new servers and licensing, loading, and configuration new software," says Sotola. "That helps us react more swiftly to customer needs, and increase processing capacity very quickly."

In summary, the Sun Fire 15K server plays a critical role in helping CGI-AMS software developers meet new release schedules and support their customers.
