Business Results
Story DetailsGrupo Dinarte, a design and graphic communication company in Madrid, Spain, wanted to upgrade its storage infrastructure to enhance customer service and improve the performance and capacity of its storage systems. The company manages data in a range of formats, from databases, documents, and text files to high-resolution images and high-definition videos. In addition to increasing storage capacity and performance, Grupo Dinarte needed a flexible solution that would be compatible with Apple Mac devices and a network of PCs. Since its founding in 1991, Grupo Dinarte has focused on ensuring that data was secure yet easily accessible to customers. The company sought to continue this tradition by handling the expanding volume of data with a more centralized, easily managed and secure solution.
"
Every day in our company we move a significant volume of data, and wait times and information-transfer times must be more than acceptable. The Sun storage solution met our needs very satisfactorily and helped us be more competitive in the marketplace.
"
— Daniel Sánchez, Director of Computer Systems, Grupo Dinarte
To address these needs, Grupo Dinarte replaced its existing Power PC-based system running Mac OS X with a Sun Fire X4150 Server running the Solaris 10 Operating System and a Sun StorageTek 2510 RAID array with 1 Gb/sec iSCSI connectivity. The Sun Fire X4150 server was selected for its price/performance, small footprint and energy-efficiency design. For data management, Grupo Dinarte uses the Solaris ZFS file system to automate common administrative tasks, protect data from corruption, and provide fast access to stored information. In addition, the SMI-S-compliant StorageTek Common Array Manager software provides the company with a common, simple-to-use disk interface for managing the StorageTek 2510 array. Sun partner Core Systems integrated the high-performance, high-density, cost-effective solution with Grupo Dinarte's Mac-based design environment. Grupo Dinarte is using SunSpectrum support as well. Now, Grupo Dinarte has a centralized, easy-to-manage storage platform to securely store its critical data. The new solution has reduced administration time by 50 percent and increased the speed of the storage system by 25 percent. Grupo Dinarte has also gained a reliable, scalable platform that has the capacity to handle volumes of information over 2 TB and store complex directory structures. Its customers have better access to data with the new solution which has managed to triple the performance of the infrastructure over the previous environment. |
