192.com, an award-winning UK-based online directory services firm, switched to a Sun Solaris IT environment to support rapid expansion into corporate services such as anti-fraud and age verification for online retail and gaming. As part of its relocation and expansion of its datacenter to support the company's growth, 192.com moved from its previous HP/Linux/Windows environment to the Solaris 10 Operating System and a Sun blade infrastructure, combining both UltraSPARC systems with Chip Multi-Threading and x64 systems. 192.com also opted for Sun StorageTek gear, and engaged Sun Professional Services to help with the deployment and maintenance. While the Sun technology's low power consumption was a key factor, ultimately the Sun systems' benchmark performance beat out all competitors.

Bridgewater Systems


When Bridgewater Systems, a global software provider of service control solutions, wanted to shift its business model from selling software to supplying its customers with full turn-key solutions, it tapped Sun Services to assist. The Sun Services team helped Bridgewater shift from an exclusive ISV model to an OEM business model by allowing the company to stay focused on its core competency in high performance service control software solutions, while Sun implemented the necessary IT and services infrastructure for the transition. Sun Netra servers and StorageTek systems running the Solaris 10 Operating System were central to providing Bridgewater with the massive scalability required by its more than 100 telecom customers such as Verizon Wireless.

CIMB Bank


To support its dramatic growth, Malaysian financial services giant CIMB Bank selected a full portfolio of Sun SPARC servers and storage systems running the Solaris 10 Operating System. Sun edged out other hardware competitors as CIMB Bank chose Solaris 10 for the operating system's performance, stability and dynamic domain reconfiguration capabilities. Sun Services have also been engaged by CIMB Bank to provide installation, project management and maintenance services. CIMB Bank expects to save 60 percent in IT operation costs from using Sun technology and services.

Gorilla Nation, a leading online advertising representation firm that handles media sales for over 500 high traffic websites, turned to Sun's MySQL database to support the exponential growth of its business. The company has subscribed to MySQL Enterprise to help power and support its advertising intelligence platform, which manages over 1 terabyte of data and provides vital real-time traffic and advertising campaign performance information.

Internet Archive Project


The Internet Archive Project (IAP), which maintains a library of the world's digital assets, including all Web sites and legally accessible digital books, music and videos, switched to key Sun Storage and Systems solutions. The organization has been growing at a rate of 100 terabytes every two months, and was in search of a new hardware and file system as well as a datacenter option that would increase flexibility, responsiveness and capacity for growth.The IAP selected Sun's Open Storage products and technologies including ZFS to archive its data, and Sun Modular Datacenter (Project Blackbox) as its primary datacenter.

The company opted for an integrated software and services solution that would help it reduce lag time and boost performance to support its approximately 200 million daily downloads. The easy-to-deploy solution, including a three-year Sun MySQL Enterprise subscription combined with Solaris Everywhere and MySQL support contracts, is helping LinkedIn provide users with faster response times, greater availability and an enhanced experience.

Sun Microsystems has been selected to provide the technology platform to NBC Universal for its Olympic Web site, NBCOlympics.com, during the network's coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics from Beijing, China, August 8-24. Powered by Sun's high-performance, eco-efficient systems, NBC's online coverage of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing will set a new standard in delivering digital content to viewers with live streaming of events, video archives of completed events, blogs, live chat, athlete profiles and many other unique features. Olympic fans will have access to approximately 2,200 total hours of live streaming Olympic broadband video coverage of 25 different sports on the site.

Punjab National Bank


Punjab National Bank (PNB), the second largest public sector bank in India with more than 4500 branches, has selected a comprehensive Sun solution to power its central IT infrastructure. The bank chose a variety of Sun SPARC servers, Sun Storage technologies and Sun Professional and Managed Services, to power its Centralized Banking System as part of its aggressive implementation of the "Any Time, Any Where Banking" concept. With scalability surpassing the bank's expectations, the Sun deployment, with the help of Sun Professional and Managed Services, will enable 100 percent centralization by March 2009 and will enable the bank to sustain three times its current business volumes. Through the selection of Sun's Chip Multi-Threaded technologies, PNB will gain from the highest compute density, while maintaining maximum power efficiency to help reduce its data center footprint and power and cooling requirements.
