Changing the economics of a VTL - Improving Data Protection
A proof-of-concept solution running on the Sun Fire X4500 Data Server
utilizing Solaris ZFS, a dynamic file system in Sun's Solaris 10 Operating System that delivers provable data integrity with virtually unlimited capacity and near-zero Administration, was showcased at the Sun Forum 2006 Conference in October. This VTL solution will help enable remote office to datacenter replication for Dynamic Reconfiguration with a common simple to use user interface and IP remote replication that addresses recovery time objectives, backup issues, and traditional tape management in an
open systems environment at 1/5th the size, and 4x denser compared to a comparable EMC CDL210 Disk Library. [1]
Stay Tuned for future development on this single integrated system combining server, storage and software makes for easy deployment, administration, and maintenance since there are no moving parts. [2]
