Overview
Sun ushers in another exceptional tool for technical professionals with the Sun Blade 2000 workstation. The Sun Blade 2000 system accommodates up to two Superscalar, 64-bit, high-performance UltraSPARC III Cu CPUs. It features a high-performance, crossbar-switch system interconnect that provides high bandwidth (up to 4 GBps) for ultra-high-speed processors and graphic subsystems. It also delivers plenty of internal disk and memory and a 64-bit PCI bus for incredibly fast I/O. The Sun Blade 2000 workstation provides both USB and IEEE 1394 interfaces for connectivity to leading-edge third-party peripherals. With high-end 3-D graphics, dual-monitor capabilities, and support for Sun's storage systems, this workstation is truly a powerful, flexible next-generation desktop.

High Performance

The high-performance Sun Blade 2000 workstation supports two, high-speed, 64-bit, 900-MHz or 1.2-GHz UltraSPARC III Cu processors. With exceptional performance and scalability, UltraSPARC III technology provides support for compute-intensive applications while maintaining full compatibility with previous Sun systems and software.

For some applications, the size of the processor cache can be key to performance. With the Sun Blade 2000 workstation's 8 MB of Level 2 cache per CPU, you can increase performance by keeping as much of the application in cache and out of slower main memory and secondary disk storage.

Big Memory
The Sun Blade 2000 workstation features up to 8 GB of RAM, enabling faster calculations and increased performance--applications can run directly in RAM at much greater speeds than from disk.

Graphics and Video Options

The Sun Blade 2000 workstation supports Sun XVR-100, Sun XVR-500, Sun XVR-1000, and Sun XVR-1200 graphics accelerators, enabling you to mix and match a full range of 2-D and 3-D graphics cards and options.

The entry-level Sun XVR-100 graphics accelerator provides simple, inexpensive 2-D operations. The mid-range Sun XVR-500 graphics accelerator provides fast 2-D and inexpensive 3-D operations. The higher-end Sun XVR-1000 and Sun XVR-1200 graphics accelerators are ideal for applications requiring high-performance, hardware-based, texture mapping acceleration.

The Sun Blade 2000 workstation also features two UPA (Ultra Port Architecture) graphics slots which provide dedicated graphics card support, delivering the maximum throughput required by some applications to provide realistic renderings of objects. With dual UPA slots, you have greater flexibility in configuring a larger range of solutions.

In addition, the Sun Blade 2000 workstation delivers IEEE 1394 connectivity on the system board and digital video performance at isochronous speed through two IEEE 1394 digital video ports--allowing for exceptional performance for FireWire-based multimedia devices.

Processor
The Sun Blade 2000 workstation comes with 900-MHz or 1.2-GHz versions of the 64-bit UltraSPARC III Cu processor. UltraSPARC III Cu processors provide excellent integer and floating-point performance to address the needs of the most computationally demanding applications in e-commerce, large corporate networks, high-capacity Web servers, and online transaction processing--or any demanding commercial or technical computing environment. Key features such as an on-chip memory controller, Uptime bus, and high memory bandwidth all contribute to increased application performance.

Capacity
Memory
Eight Sun 232-pin SDRAM DIMM slots provide support for a maximum of 8 GB of ECC error correcting code memory. ECC code detects and correct all single bit errors. It also detects all double, triple, and quadruple bit errors that occur in the same nibble. The Sun Blade 2000 workstation implementation allows detection of SDRAM chip failures due to a customized routing of the memory bus.
