Q: How many 5V 32-bit/33-Mhz PCI slots does the Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation have?
A:
Three.
Q: Will PCI-X cards work in these 32-bit/33-Mhz PCI slots?
A:
No. PCI-X cards are 3.3V only, have a 64-bit interface, and work up to
133MHz. They will not work in the 5V 32-bit/33-Mhz PCI slots inside the
Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation.
Q: Will 64-bit PCI cards (not PCI-X) fit into PCI slots?
A:
Some. 64-bit PCI cards are either 5V or 3.3V, have a 64-bit interface,
and work at either 33MHz or 66MHz. Hence only 5V, 33MHz or 66MHz PCI
cards will work inside the Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation. 5V 66MHz 64-bit
PCI cards will be clocked down to 33Mhz inside the Sun Ultra 20 M2
Workstation.
Q: Can all expansion slots accept full-length cards?
A:
Yes. The three PCI-Express slots accept full length cards and the three
PCI slots accept cards up to 13.4 inches.
Q: Can I use memory from Sun Fire X2100 M2/X4100 M2/X4200 M2 Servers in the Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation?
A:
No. The Sun Fire X2200 M2/ X4100M2 / X4200 M2 Servers use registered DIMMs. The Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation uses unbuffered DIMMs. The Sun
Ultra 20 M2 Workstation does use the same memory as the Sun Fire X2100 M2 Server.
Q: Why must I upgrade memory in pairs?
A:
The AMD Opteron Processor has a dual-channel memory controller. Hence, both channels must have identical DIMMs to ensure proper electrical loading and performance.
Q: Can I add non-Sun memory to the Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation?
A:
The DIMMs used in the Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation have gone through extensive testing and qualification before being added to Sun's approved vendor
list. Note that not all vendors perform equally, and some third-party memory vendors do not provide the reliability and quality Sun customers expect.
Sun recommends that customers use only Sun-qualified memory for maximum reliability.
Q: Does the Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation support SAS drives?
A:
Yes. The Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation will support up to two SAS 146 GB 15K rpm hard disk drives. An internal SAS adapter, part number 4219A, must also be ordered.

A:
RAID 0 and RAID 1, for the Windows XP Professional OS only. RAID 0 and RAID 1 are not supported on Linux and Solaris 10 on the Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation.

The Sun Ultra 20 M2 standard configurations ship with either a slot-load DVD-Dual (DVD-RW/CD-Combo) drive or a DVD-ROM drive.

The Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation differs from a PC. Its heavier workload directly influences Sun's selection of technology. Hence, Sun selected
workstation-class graphics accelerator cards and has not tested any "gaming-class" graphics cards.
Q: Can I install NVIDIA's new Quadro FX 4500 X2 graphics card?
A:
No. The power supply and thermal management system of the Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation was not designed to support NVIDIA's new Quadro FX 4500 X2 graphics card.
Q: How do I connect the DVI port on the graphics accelerator card to an analog display (CRT)?
A:
Through a DVI-to-VGA adapter. An inexpensive one can be purchased at a local computer store. Sun also sells a DVI-to-VGA adapter (Sun Part Number X8015A).
Q: How do I connect the VGA port on the graphics accelerator card to a DVI port of a digital display (LCD)?
A:
Not possible. A VGA port on the graphics accelerator card can only drive an analog display (CRT). It cannot drive a digital display (LCD).
Q: Where is the serial port?
A:
The Ultra 20 M2 Workstation does not have an external serial port. However, for debugging purposes, it provides a 10-port header on the motherboard that
can be connected a cable to "bring out" the serial port.
Q: Where is the parallel port?
A:
The Sun Ultra 20 M2 Workstation does not have any parallel ports.
Q: Where are the PS/2 ports for keyboards and mice?
A:
