Blade servers
Sun designed its blade platforms from the ground up to take maximum advantage of the inherent functionality of the blades model and then took the design further than other industry suppliers, making Sun blades, also known as server modules, more flexible, more efficient, more manageable, more scalable, and faster than the competition.
Sun blade servers don't lock you into one type of processor or operating system. In a single common chassis, you can mix Sun blade servers that use Sun UltraSPARC, AMD Opteron, and Intel Xeon processors running Solaris 10 OS, Linux, Windows, and VMware.

Rack-mounted servers
Sun x64 rack-mounted servers provide superior price, performance, and efficiency in a wide variety of rack-mounted systems.
Sun Fire x64 servers with AMD Opteron and Intel Xeon processors are built for today's data centers. Packing exceptional performance and expansion capability into a compact design, these versatile servers deliver the compute power, storage performance, and capacity required for massively parallel data processing, video surveillance, streaming applications, and more.

Storage servers
With the continued and unabated growth in the volume of data that needs to be stored, processed, and distributed, today's data storage solutions need to be cost effective and fast, as well as highly scalable and reliable.
Sun x64 storage servers offer several advantages over traditional storage solutions, including:
- Efficiency - They enable vast amounts of data to be available online at significantly lower cost than traditional storage systems.
- Performance - They improve the response time for storing, retrieving, and processing data.
- Manageability - They reduce the complexity of IT environments by eliminating the need for external storage and networking.
- Efficiency and size - They control spiraling data center costs and relieve capacity constraints for power, cooling, and real estate

Highlighted Document
Most documents for Sun x64 products provide information about the features and functionality of a single platform. For example, the Sun Blade X6250 server module (blade) has an installation manual, a service manual, and operating system installation manuals.
However, most x64 systems share important features, such as the Sun Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) service processor. All products that have ILOM will include the ILOM documentation set on their platform documentation page.
ILOM is an important tool that is used by almost all administrators, technicians, and service personnel. Understanding ILOM's features and how to use its functions can have a profound effect on the performance and reliability of your servers.
Most x64 server modules and rack-mounted servers have an ILOM service processor. Many platforms have unique ILOM features.

- The User's Guide provides information that is common to ILOM 2.0 across platforms.
- The Supplement provides information that is related to ILOM but is specific to this server.
- The Addendum provides information that has been incorporated since the initial release of ILOM 2.0.
Other platforms have different sets of ILOM documentation. For example, the Sun Fire X4600 server documentation page has manuals for the initial version of ILOM (ILOM 1.0), as well as for the newer, improved versions of ILOM 1.1.1 and 2.0.
