Sun Java System Portal Server 7.1 Update 1 introduces a group of features for handling membership of the communities. This includes the ability for an individual to create a community and restrict which users can access the portal, a mechanism for users to request and be granted access to a community and for individuals to search, find and request access to communities. This release also introduces the AJAX Container - a new type of portal container that will integrate AJAX capabilities at the framework level providing asynchronous loading of individual channels/portlets thus enhancing the loading time of the portal page, and the Collaboration Portlets - providing the ability for a Portal user to create a new community, view communities, join a community, and maintain a community.
