Sun StorageTek SL8500

In this demo we talk about the various features of the SL8500. The Sun StorageTek SL8500 library is a high-end, datacenter-class, automated data storage and retrieval tape library. The Sun StorageTek SL8500 library was designed to support extremely demanding tape applications. This library consists of the LSM (Library Storage Module), LCU (Library Control Unit), LMU (Library Management Unit), and the locations for the drives are contained within the Sun StorageTek SL8500 envelope. Designed with 5 Nines Availability (99.999%) and expansion in mind, all of the functional library components can be duplicated for redundancy ensuring a continually operating library where failed components can be replaced without taking down the library.

Sun Fire X4500 and Video Surveillance

The x4500 Video Surveillance Appliance from Sun and ipConfigure. The first cost-effective, super-capacity video surveillance appliance that leverages high density storage and data throughput It supports increases in video recording frames and resolutions and provides longer video retention and more cameras per server.

The Sun Fire X4500 server is a new 4-way x64 rack-optimized data server powered by award-winning AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) Opteron[tm] processors. With 24 Terabytes of integrated direct-attached storage in a 4U form factor, the Sun Fire X4500 server is a compact, high-performance and low cost data server.

Sun is changing the server landscape by defining the Data Server. The Sun Fire X4500, the world's first Data Server integrates powerful Opteron processors with massive data storage and throughput. This innovative approach allows customers to deploy applications in ways that previously were not possible or cost effective. Sun StorageTek SL500

The Sun StorageTek SL500 Tape Library offers the latest in flexibility in midrange computing environments. Scaling from 30 to over 500 slots, SL500 is designed to be rack mounted and features LTO 2 drives, in either LVD SCSI or native Fibre Channel technologies. The SL500 is based on a new architecture that promotes serviceability and allows the library to adapt easily to customers' changing tape automation needs. The SL500 can scale dynamically in the number of slots.

Sun StorageTek 5800 (Honeycomb)

Project Honeycomb represents a next generation solution for fixed-data storage that allows customers to dramatically improve the way large-scale asset management and data archival systems are deployed and maintained.

This demo consists of a photo archival & retrieval system which scans & searches through a database of high resolution pictures which are actually stored on a real 8 cell Honeycomb hardware system nearby. Using this functionality one can easily search through different views of those pictures in terms of model of the camera, lens used, date/time of capture etc.
