Redefining Storage Economics

Open storage, open source software, and open standards will combine to cut storage costs by up to 90%.

Hello,

The global economic crisis has touched almost all organizations, large and small, across all industries. In their struggles to keep pace with today's rapid data growth and storage management complexity, companies need a revolutionary solution that will redefine the economics of storing and managing massive amount of data.

Building on Sun's years of open systems innovation and leadership, we recently launched industry-standard hardware and released a comprehensive suite of storage software to open source via the OpenSolaris Storage community. Sun believes that open storage products and services will represent almost 12% of the total storage market by 2011. This includes storage hardware, software, and services. In 1999, Sun launched the Jiro platform, which showed the way to open storage management. Sun believes that the combination of open storage and open source software with industry-standard system components can help reduce storage costs by up to 90%.

Recently, Sun introduced the world's first open storage appliances — the Sun Storage 7000 series, which includes the Sun Storage 7110, 7210 and 7410 systems. Each is the first in a new and broad family of Unified Storage Systems — a game-changing product line that presents compelling simplicity and cost-efficiency to customers.

The launch of the Sun Storage 7000 series will radically simplify the way customers manage storage, with breakthrough speed, scale, and dramatic cost savings.
