If you're attending a launch event for Microsoft's Windows Server 2008 in Asia South in March or April, you may notice something that many could never have imagined a few years ago — Sun's presence.
What is Sun doing at a Microsoft event? Well, three years ago, Sun and Microsoft decided that a pragmatic approach would best serve the customers of both companies. The result is a 10-year collaborative agreement by which the two tech vendors are making interoperability a reality in Web services and on the desktop.
In the datacenter, we're working together to ensure that Windows is supported on x86 Sun systems, and enhancing storage and systems management interoperability. Our physical presence at these Microsoft launch events reiterates this commitment.
For an in-depth look at Sun/Microsoft interoperability and how it can mean greater integration for your enterprise systems, don't miss our informative Net Talk Webcast with Sun CTO Greg Papadopoulos and other Sun leaders.
Offering Customers Greater Choice and Flexibility
And no, our presence at a Microsoft event does not signal a lack of commitment to our Solaris 10 Operating System. We want customers to buy Sun server and storage systems from us, even if they aren't running the Solaris OS. And we want them to run the Solaris OS, even if it's not on a Sun system.
Sun is committed to offering customers freedom of choice, as well as delivering technology with advanced features that enable greater performance, manageability, longevity, and efficiency. In addition, our open support for Linux, Windows, and Solaris OS environments provides customers with greater investment protection.
A great example of how Sun is living up to its commitment to greater flexibility and technological innovation is our x64 server lineup. These powerhouse systems give you a choice of AMD or Intel processors and the Solaris, Linux, or Windows operating system — while packing industry-leading efficiency, performance, and expandability into a small and energy-efficient footprint.
If you are attending a Windows Server 2008 launch event in Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, or elsewhere, I urge you to speak with a Sun representative to find out more on what we mean by "experience the difference."
