Podcast: Charging Ahead with Enterprise Social Networking

Sun leaders talk about social networking policy and potential

Bob Worrall, CIO, Sun Microsystems, Inc.Hello, Sun Inner Circle readers, it's Bob Worrall with a departure from my usual letter format. As regular readers know, I frequently report back on conversations I have with experts in particular fields. This time I'm presenting you an audio discussion about social networking I recently had with Michelle Dennedy, Sun's chief privacy officer, and Terry McKenzie, Sun's senior director of Global Employee Communications and Communities.

In the course of our roundtable discussion, we touched on how social networking is becoming a part of corporate life — and lessons we've learned about using these technologies at Sun. Because of their responsibilities, both Michelle and Terry brought unique insight to our conversation, and I think decision-makers at other companies will find these observations instructive. We also discussed how privacy policy should inform social networking in the enterprise, as well as ways to ensure that employees use these tools to be more productive.

You can listen to the entire podcast, select the condensed version, or choose short chapters about privacy and lessons learned. I hope you'll find this audio presentation helpful to your own social networking plans, and look forward to writing you with one of my more traditional letters next month.
