IT Services in the Open Network
Called IT services in the open network, Sun's roadmap identifies 10 areas in which subscription services will run operations:
- Customer lifecycle management
- Human resources management systems
- Partner data integration
- Enterprise data integration
- Data services
- Security
- Datacenter facilities
- Networks
- User services
- Engineering services
The roadmap also identifies the technological dependencies these services share. Called foundational elements at Sun, these 15 areas must be in place for services to be provided by subscription:
- Internet-facing home directory
- Trusted enterprise integration
- Internet-facing logup/logdown with user-friendly authentication and authorization
- Composite application platform
- Virtualized datacenter
- Delegated access administration for partners
- Hosted interactive voice response (IVR)
- Wireless voice and data
- Next-generation networks
- Client platforms
- Workforce collaboration
- Presence and identity capabilities
- Network directory services
- Core mobile/desktop client applications
- Shared applications and service
The hardest part of this strategy may well have been identifying the services and foundational elements for IT services in the open network. As we move forward with finding subscription vendors this year, we're confident that the new IT model will rapidly become a reality at Sun.
