Track 1: Archive/Backup/Data Protection
- Open Archive: The Continuing Role of Tape
While open storage will have a significant impact to disk storage customers by offering improved cost and better flexiblity, open
storage and open source software will also deliver material benefits to tradtional tape customers. This presentation will cover
the evolving role and continued advantages of virtual and physical tape storage in the new open storage paradigm. Sun's open architectural
appraoch to archive management software will be presented along with other software elements relevant to customers who want to
optimize their tape storage infrastructures. (Jim Cates)
- Integrated VTL: The Power of Virtual Tape
This session begins with a quick overview a Virtual Tape system's primary role in the back-up and restore environment and moves on to define the Integrated VTL and compare it to what is typically sold by other technology vendors in today's market. An Integrated VTL is the cornerstone of cost-effective and efficient data protection architecture.
Usage of key features such as NDMP 4.0, tape caching and data de-duplication will be highlighted in the conversation. (Dan Albright)
- Sun Storage Virtual Storage Manager - Solution for Today and Tomorrow
This presentation will provide both an overview and update on the industry leading VSM solution from Sun. This session will provide background of how VSM is truly the best integrated virtual tape solution on the market today. The fully integrated disk, tape, and software solution helps solve those ever growing storage challenges.
The speaker will also provide a glimpse into our future directions with this product. (Steve Aaker)
- Tape Library and Drive Update
This session will cover what Sun has released since the last Forum in tape libraries and drives = enhancements and new products that helped Sun capture the
#1 market share in automated tape (per IDC branded in 2Q 2008). It will also cover what is planned next - innovations that will
continue to demonstrate Sun's leadership in tape libraries and drives. (Tom Wultich)
- Tape - The Ultimate Eco Storage
This presentation will provide you with the perspective that disk-only vendors do
not want you to know. Find out how tape is an economically responsible storage tier and how having a spare copy of your data
on tape can be priceless. (Jay Wallace)
Track 2: Primary Storage
- Microsoft Exchange 2007 and Sun Solutions a Perfect Match
Microsoft and Sun Microsystems recently have forged great relationships and solutions for Exchange 2007. From production servers and storage to turnkey solutions Sun and Microsoft with our partners have a great deal to offer. See why our solutions are faster running and more economical to operate than other solutions available.
All of our solutions are fully tested and certified and posted on the Microsoft website. (Stephen Marble)
- Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage Systems (a.k.a. Amber Road): Inside the Software, Amber Road, and Sun's Next Generation Open Storage
For almost three years, Sun's Fishworks advanced engineering team has been hidden away building our next-generation Open Storage platforms. Mike Shapiro, Distinguished Engineer and lead for the Fishworks team, will introduce and demo the new products and talk about how Sun's Open Storage products deliver innovations and a new kind of storage economics.
- What's new in Sun Service Scene
Meet the VP of Sun's Global Storage Technology Support Center, Sue Zwinger. Receive an update on the current state of Storage service and view the path forward. Session wraps up with Q & A.
- Designing Sun Modular Storage for Oracle Environments
Understanding how Oracle interacts with Sun Modular Storage is key to designing a database that takes advantage of the storage architecture. In this
session, Sun Engineering will walk you through access rate, access time, protection and capacity to increase the accuracy of the
storage design. (Grant Sleesman)
- Shifting Gears with FLASH SSDs
This session examines the SSD paradigm shift and offers suggestions on to how to go about re-designing the CPU-storage eco-system. (Dennis Vilfort)
- Designing Storage Infrastructure for Virtualized Data Centers
Understanding how Oracle interacts with Sun Modular Storage is key to designing a database that takes advantage of the storage architecture. In this
session, Sun Engineering will walk you through access rate, access time, protection and capacity to increase the accuracy of the
storage design. (Said Syed)
Track 3: Archive/Backup/Primary Storage
- Customer Perspective: SSD: Storage, Servitude & Denial, How Flash and Open Storage can free you from 20 years of vendor domination
Open Storage and SSD provide the building blocks to end 20 years of storage vendors dictating to customers. Combined, these technologies empower you to buy IOPs not spindles, avoid data hostage situations...even if its on an appliance, and get the features you need, not just the ones you can afford.
We'll talk about these and other ways to use Open Storage, SSD, and optionally the Sun Unified Storage System, to put you in the driver's seat of your storage environment. (Jason Williams, DigiTar)
- Customer Perspective: Redefining Hierarchical Storage Management flexibility and Open Storage in high throughput scientific environments
Storage management is no longer about just looking after data. It has become a role that involves understanding the color, shape and nature of data. The Queensland Brain Institute and The Australian Institute of Bionengineering and Nanotechnology at the University of Queensland are managing explosive scientific data growth in unique ways, aided by Sun's SAM-FS and ZFS.
This session covers the challenges, difficulties and tideal theatre nanotechnology. (Jake Carroll, University of Queensland)
- BOF with Customer Perspective: Sun's Mainframe Storage into the Future and RBC's Continued Evolution of Mainframe Tape with Dan Ledgerwood of RBC
This presentation will give you the background on how Sun has extended the breath and reach of the StorageTek mainframe attached storage based on the STK heritage, the current Sun portfolio, competitive strengths and a glimpse into our directions.
Find out why Sun knows mainframes, that Sun provides an end-to-end mainframe storage solutions, and how Sun is enhancing mainframe storage solutions. (Jay Wallace, moderated by Tom Wultich)
- End-to-End Storage for HPC
Come learn what Sun is doing to simplify HPC Systems with compute and storage clusters, delivering extreme storage performance and archiving your data for the long term. (Marc Hamilton)
- Data De-duplication Choices and Considerations
The amount of data generated by an enterprise and the complexity of the data protection are growing at a fast rate every year. De-duplication can provide a solution to these problems. This session will start with an overview of the different de-duplication technologies and approaches and provide pros and cons for each. The benefits of the de-duplication and key points customer need to consider when selecting a de-duplication solution will be discussed. (Jun Jang)
- Managing Scalable Storage Environments with Solaris
Using a freely-available OS can help reduce your overall storage dated to handle new storage protocols environment
costs while keeping up with the latest storage developments and and innovations. Why pay for data services and storage protocol
support when Solaris provides these capabilities by default. (Lynn Rohrer)
