The MySQL User Conference & Expo is the world's largest annual community of open source database developers, DBAs, vendors and corporate IT users. Attendees will include database experts and speakers from Facebook, Yahoo!, Google, eBay, Fotolog, Tickmaster, Youtube, and other premier Web 2.0 and enterprise companies.

"As the definition of 'online' expands to cover everything from cell phones to TV to your car, Sun will help foster MySQL's scope as a leading platform for Web 2.0 and modern Enterprise 2.0 infrastructure," said Zack Urlocker, vice president of products for Sun's newly-formed Database Group.

MySQL 5.1 Unveiled

Sun unveiled MySQL 5.1, the latest version of the database, which includes significant performance and data management enhancements for large-scale applications . You can download the release candidate right now . Even with all the new features, MySQL's "15 minute rule", which enables users to download, install and get the database up and running within 15 minutes, remains firmly in place.

These new features enhance MySQL's well-recognized ability to manage the explosive growth of Web Scale applications, and with the addition of Sun's 17,000 person global services organization, make it even more appealing to companies seeking a database solution with high reliability and a low TCO.

"We're using MySQL 5.1 in production for a Weblog discovery code database which indexes approximately 18 million URLs per day," said Kevin Burton, founder and CEO of Spinner.com. "The new features in 5.1 extend the ease-of-use, scalability, and performance that MySQL is already famous for, so it can continue to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of today's database applications."
