Designed to meet the specific needs of OEMs competing in a global market, Sun provides a variety of offerings to simplify business processes, strengthen communications, and fulfill unique product and service requirements of our OEM partners. As the pioneer of Java technology and the visionary force and architect of open network computing, we offer the innovative technology, professional services, and a broad product range you need to rapidly develop, deploy, and deliver new, differentiated solutions. Some of the advantages include:
Long-term partnership and commitmentsSun has a stake in OEMs being successful. Sun has partnered with OEMs to produce state-of-the-art products for numerous industries (Telecommunications, Medical Imaging, Photo Processing, etc.). Sun deploys resources to support the four phases of the customer OEM projects (Development, Testing, Deployment, Maintenance).
A successful projectMany OEM projects have requirements that are not met by Sun's standard hardware and software offerings. In many instances, Sun can offer technical integration of Sun's SPARC and Solaris based products. Sun can work with OEMs to develop a Sun based system architecture that addresses specific needs of a project. The Sun offerings include overall system architecture, high availability implementations and other technical activities to assist in the implementation an OEM project. This includes requirements review, architecture/design, implementation, test and operational transition. The customer can utilize these services to reduce their time to market.
Sun is a technology innovatorOEMs are constantly looking for advantages over their competition. They must constantly be looking at new technologies to maintain a competitive advantage. OEMs need a vendor that is able to create and drive technologies. Sun offers a leadership portfolio of technology innovations that have been proven in the industry. Sun's flagship technology innovations include leading scalable UltraSPARC servers, high performance operating environment (Solaris), industry defacto standard distributed file system (NFS) and the Internet standard development platform (Java).
Leverage a common software development and deployment platformCorporations that need OEMs look for a supplier that will offer them a stable long term platform. Sun is an OEM supplier that has long offered a fully binary compatible platform based on the Solaris/SPARC architecture. Companies that select Sun Microsystems as their OEM supplier have an additional advantage of being able to leverage a common development environment which hosts a rich set of development tools. OEM projects targeted for deployment on Sun's SPARC/Solaris platform should be developed using Sun's complete line of engineering workstations and mission-critical servers. A common development and deployment platform will improve application development, testing and debugging. Engineers can move binary applications from their development workstation to the target server. No cross compiler process is needed. Testing completed on the workstation generally does not need to be repeated. Therefore, application debugging time can be significantly reduced.
Required long-term support servicesSun can provide custom tailored support to meet the needs of the OEM. Sun can offer standard hardware and software coverage for engineering development workstations. OEM projects typically have a lab configuration to support development and internal call centers which require higher levels of response and 7x24 coverage. The Sun team can provide this support coverage. Sun understands that OEM customers will have their own set of service requirements. Sun will work with the OEM's customer call centers to provide back-end global coverage. Depending on geographic location and the service level retained, Sun can provide 7x24 on-site, depot repair, and/or call center support as needed. |
