Overview

This product has reached end-of-life and is no longer orderable. It is superceded by the next generation products.

Telecom customers are transitioning their blade applications to highly configurable building blocks for use in switched fabric networks. A key component of this transition is converting I/O traffic from system buses and protocols to packet buses and protocols. The Netra CP2300 Telecom blade server is a CompactPSB board from Sun which supports redundant packet I/O over a compact PCI Packet Switched Backplane (cPSB) according to the PICMG 2.16 specification. Now customers can configure a scalable local area network within a 2.16 chassis using Sun's industry-proven SPARC and Solaris platform. And they can manage it in an integrated way using processor-and FRU-level manageability. This combination, along with NEBS Level-3 certification, meets the demanding requirements of telecommunications and network equipment providers.

High Performance
The Netra CP2300 board features a 650-MHz UltraSPARC IIi processor with 512 KB of Level 2 cache and up to 2.5 GB of memory, making it ideal for high-performance, embedded, compute-dense applications. UltraSPARC technology delivers substantial data throughput at a lower cost while maintaining complete binary compatibility in an industry-standard package. The large memory capacity enables hosting of larger applications, supporting more users, accommodating spikes in demand, preserving data, and contributing to immediate and constant access to data.

Flexibility
A rackmount architecture, CompactPCI (cPCI) compliant and adherence to the following PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG) standards:
  • PICMG 2.0, Rev 3
  • PICMG 2.1, Rev 2
  • PICMG 2.9, Rev 1
  • PICMG 2.10, Rev 1
  • PICMG 2.15, Rev 1
  • PICMG 2.16, Rev. 1

For network flexibility and investment protection, two PCI mezzanine card (PMC) slots enable mixing and matching of third-party PMC products, allowing solutions to be tailored for specific application needs and expanding options for multiprotocol I/O interfaces.

The Ethernet packet I/O over a compact PCI Packet Switched Backplane (cPSB) at 100Base-T bandwidth provides virtually unlimited configuration options and scalability with little or no LAN cabling--helping to increase network flexibility and availability.
