High Performance

The SX2500 board features two 1.28-GHz UltraSPARC IIIi processors to deliver outstanding 64-bit application performance. The highly-integrated, performance-scalable, 64-bit UltraSPARC IIIi compute engine is based on Sun's flagship UltraSPARC III processor. UltraSPARC III technology provides support for compute-intensive applications while maintaining full compatibility with previous Sun systems and software. The processor features 1 MB of Level 2 cache integrated on die to help maximize application performance.

The SX2500 board also supports up to 16 GB of DDR-1 ECC memory for demanding applications that enable larger data sets be stored directly in RAM and accessed more quickly than from disk. As a result, the SX2500 board helps to increase expansion capabilities as well as the size and number of simultaneous applications and calculations.

Investment Protection

The SX2500 board supports the Solaris 8 Operating System. A robust, enterprise-class, scalable platform, the Solaris Operating System is a reliable OS architected for multiprocessing and 64-bit UltraSPARC computing. The Solaris Operating System provides extensive virtual memory addressing as well as 100% binary compatibility with previous versions of the Solaris OS and Solaris applications.

The SX2500 board also supports both ATA100 and UltraSCSI hard drives that provide access to a large, high-performance, scalable storage system.

The SX2500 board comes in an extended ATX form factor (12 in. x 13 in.) for use in a standard chassis and a wide range of environments.

Graphics and Video Options

The SX2500 board supports up to four Sun XVR-100 graphics accelerators, up to two Sun XVR-500 graphics accelerators, and up to two Sun XVR-1200 graphics accelerators for cost-effective, professional-quality graphics.

The Sun XVR-100 graphics accelerator enables dual display from a single board and provides up to 1920 x 1200 resolution @ 75 Hz in 8-bit and 24-bit mode. The Sun XVR-500 graphics accelerator provides up to 1920 x 1080 2-D or 3-D resolution @ 72 Hz and up to 1280 x 800 3-D stereo resolution @ 112 Hz. The Sun XVR-1200 graphics accelerator provides dual displays from a single board, contains over 400 MB of on-board memory, and provides up to 1920 x 1080 2-D or 3-D resolution @ 72 Hz and up to 1280 x 1024 3-D stereo resolution @ 112 Hz.

Flexibility

With integrated Ethernet, six PCI slots, and built-in USB 1.1 support, the SX2500 board gives OEMs an extremely flexible platform that can allow them to respond rapidly to market needs.

Integrated, on-board autosensing and autoswitching Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000BaseT) delivers exceptional I/O performance and helps eliminate the need for an additional card to support Ethernet connectivity. Six 64-bit PCI slots provide connectivity to a wide range of PCI-based cards such as graphics cards, SCSI expansion cards, and audio/video input cards. Four rear USB 1.1 connectors enable support for low-speed devices such as a Sun USB keyboard or mouse.
