Sun Pioneers Shift to Free and Open Source Software; Announcing Java Enterprise System, Developer Tools and N1 Software are Available at No Cost

Sun Microsystems announced two landmark moves in the battle to create the software platform of choice for the next-generation of the Internet. First, Sun is making the Java Enterprise System, Sun N1 Management software including Sun N1 Grid Engine, and Sun developer tools available at no cost for both development and deployment. Second, Sun is announcing that it is integrating all of this software along with the Solaris OS into the Solaris Enterprise System, the only comprehensive and open infrastructure software platform available today.

Sun Microsystems Eliminates Development and Pricing Barriers with Sun Studio 11; Offers Latest Version Free to Developers

Sun Microsystems announced its latest development tool, Sun Studio 11, and eliminated pricing barriers by offering the product free of charge to all developers. Integrated into a fully-featured IDE, the latest enhancements made to Sun Studio 11 software include an advanced graphical debugger and a suite of performance analysis tools that simplifies the development process for C, C++, and Fortran programming.

Sun Microsystems and Cadence announce Partnership

SANTA CLARA, Calif. & SAN JOSE, Calif.)--Jan. 3, 2006--Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:SUNW) and Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CDNS) today announced that Cadence is the first electronic-design-automation (EDA) technology vendor to provide broad support across its product lines for the Solaris 10 Operating System (OS) for AMD Opteron and Sun UltraSPARC(R) processor-powered Sun Fire clients and servers. In addition, the companies have extended their long standing business relationship with the signing of a multi-year contract for Cadence products and services, and agreed to develop additional solutions that address design challenges at 90 nanometers and beyond.
