Sun and Internet2 have entered into a 20 year agreement which will enable Sun to assist Internet2's regular and affiliate members to create a digital campus of the future. This model agreement will qualify universities for perpetual licensing with predictable pricing. The offering consists of three major components:
Details of the agreement Nearly 100 Sun Software products for Production Use The agreement allows Internet2 Regular and selected Affiliate Members to the use of nearly 100 Sun software products for Administrative Use (non-profit purpose within a non-profit environment, including but not limited to production, development and testing purposes). The subscribing university will receive a credit which may be applied in the initial year of subscription towards Sun Client Solutions implementation services and in subsequent years toward any hardware, software, Sun Professional Services, or training from Sun MicrosystemsTM. Credits must be applied and spent during the subscriber's contract year for which the credit was granted. This credit cannot be accumulated or applied to forthcoming subscription years. Sun and Internet2 are in the process of creating a Network of Expertise. This network will allow both Sun and Internet2 to create and share best practices, deployment architectures and product improvements. Also, through the creation of a Network of Expertise, Sun will work with Internet2 leadership schools to provide first level support for other Internet2 schools that have the Licensed Software.
