Kim Jones

Kim Jones In her role as Vice President of Global Education and Research Line of Business at Sun Microsystems Inc., Kim Jones leads a growing, global organization of 300 people focused on Sun's relationship to its original market: education and research. This group is responsible for all areas of higher education, research institutes and primary/secondary schools globally. The functions of the organization include strategic planning, marketing, business development, external research, education programs and collaborations, and worldwide sales of approximately $1 billion dollars.

Prior to assuming the role of VP of Global Education and Research, Kim was the Director of International Sales Development at Sun where she drove the Industry Sales Development function in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific. In this role, Kim was responsible for leading field sales industry focus, business development, and driving key solution initiatives for Sun's International Market. Industries covered in this role included Education, Telco, Financial Services, Manufacturing, Government, Transportation, Petroleum and Healthcare. As part of this role, Kim managed two International Enterprise Centers in Geneva, Switzerland and Menlo Park, California that supported the field sales teams located within the international countries.

In addition to her leadership role within Sun, Kim is active in driving policy initiatives, evidenced by her testimony before the Congressional Web Based Education Commission. She is also regularly featured as an honorary speaker on the impact of technology in education at influential meetings around the world including NCTET, Sun Education Research Council Meetings, and other Education symposiums and events around the world.

Kim has been in the technology industry for 20 years. Having been with Sun since 1987, Kim brings with her a wealth of experience in various sales, business development, marketing, management, and senior leadership positions. Prior to joining Sun, Kim held a number of sales, marketing, and management positions at Wang Laboratories and Xerox Corporation.

Kim serves on the Board of Trustees for the Western Governors University, the Industry Advisory Council for Internet 2, the Board of Directors for The Jason Foundation for Education, and the World Bank Institute Advisory Council, and participates in the Business Higher Education Forum. In 2001, as testament to her superior performance, Kim received the Sun Leadership Award and served on Sun's leadership council. She also received the prestigious YWCA Award for Women in Business.

Kim graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree from University of California, San Diego.
