Instructor-Led Training

Your institution can elect to enhance your Sun Academic Initiative experience by utilizing the Instructor Led Training (ILT) course materials developed by Sun. These courses are available to your institution at no cost - that's right, Sun does not charge any license fees for these course materials. These materials include slides, speaker notes, and online epractice exams, and they cover many of the same topics available through Web-based training, including Java programming and Solaris administration.

Using these free materials, teachers give students hands-on, personal training they can apply in the real world. Instructor-led courses using Sun Academic Initiative materials are an ideal fit in technical and vocational schools, where a course might focus on job skills development and workforce readiness. They also work well as part of the syllabus in a computer science class at a four-year university.

The main requirements for ILT participation are as follows:

Certification

In addition to the free training and curricula, the Sun Academic Initiative offers to help prepare students to become Sun Certified. What does it mean to get Sun Certified? For starters, Sun certification is recognized industry-wide and it demonstrates competency in high-demand Sun technologies, such as the Java programming language and Solaris Operating System. With certification comes acknowledgment of specific technology skill sets. Much like a university diploma functioned years ago, this proof of tangible skills and knowledge opens doors that may have previously remained closed. Professional certification mitigates the gap between what graduating students know and what they need to know in order to perform certain job roles and remain marketable.

As a Sun Academic Initiative (SAI) Program participant, your institution will have access to ePractice Certification Exams to prepare for Sun Certification. These no-cost web based practice exams will acquaint your students, faculty and staff with the format of the exams and its questions. The practice exams includes sample test questions, the correct answers with explanations, and provides the test taker suggestions for future study. Additionally, its available 24 hours a day.

Discounted Certification
Once your students, faculty and staff are ready to take the Sun Certification Exams, the Sun Academic Initiative program provides heavily discounted rates for select certification tests. For example, exams that normally cost $160 for professionals are $60 in the U.S. and $40 in Latin America and Asia through the Sun Academic Initiative. Certification in Sun technologies gives students increased opportunities for job placement and career advancement.

Industry-recognized credentials through Sun Learning Services (SLS) professional certification programs are available in the these key areas:
