Sun's new UltraSPARC IV+ 64-bit Chip Multithreading (CMT) processor has significantly enhanced cores, 2-MB on-chip L2 cache, and a new 32-MB L3 cache using the latest 90nm process technology. It delivers up to 5 times higher performance than UltraSPARC III servers. As a result, customers have buy fewer CPUs to meet their increased workload demand which translates to better price perfromance.

Enhanced Compute Density

The Netra 1290 fits into the widest range of racks in its class, helping to provide the compute density today's data centers require. In fact, two Netra 1290 servers fit inside a standard rack, providing a total rack density of 24 UltraSPARC IV+ processors-for a total of 48 threads.

Exceptional scalability

The enhanced Netra 1290 server continues Sun's tradition of reducing risk and enabling customers to comfortably scale compute capacity. Member of the industry's most scalable server line from 1 to 144 threads it scales up to 12 processors, executing up to 24 simultaneous compute threads, and supports up to 96 GB of memory to provide maximum headroom for data-intensive applications.

DTrace allows real time data collection and analysis of production systems, enabling customers to optimize application performance up to 300 percent.

RAS features include hot-pluggable disk drives; redundant, hot-swappable power supplies; environmental monitoring and fault detection; Automatic System Recovery (ASR); automatic failover capability; and error correction and parity checking for improved data integrity.

Sliders, cable arms, front and back indicator lights coupled with hot-swap components, Lights Out Management Software and System Configuration Card (SCC) enable fast and easy maintenance and servicing of Netra 1290. This adds upto significant savings when maintaining a large number of systems.

Ruggedized design

The Netra 1290 has been tested to withstand severe vibration, such as - earthquakes, extremes of heat and cold, electrostatic discharge, and reduced risk of spread of fire - according to Network Equipment Building Standards (NEBS) level 3. This ensures that the system continues to operate under poor environmental conditions providing extremely high levels of reliability.

Two integrated 146 GB, 15K RPM SCSI drives provide sufficient capacity for a boot disk and one external Ultra 3 SCSI controller running at 320 MBps provides ability to attach external disk arrays.

Two integrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet (copper) ports, an Ultra 3 SCSI disk controller and serial ports provide a variety of connectivity options reducing the cost for additional I/O interfaces resulying in an optimized use of PCI slots.
