    In this review of Sun's Ultra 24 workstation, Paul Venezia of InfoWorld compares Sun's workstation with the dual-core Opteron 2218 systems. Overall, Venezia found the Ultra 24 to be a more powerful, efficient system and would recommend it to users who need more horsepower to run high-end applications.

    eWEEK's Channel Insider positive review of the Ultra 24 takes an extensive look at the workstation, highlighting features, configuration options and performance. Reviewer Frank Ohlhorst is impressed by the construction, high-quality materials and quietness of the machine. He also found the Ultra 24 "performance to be without equal," scoring an overall rating of 1,269 on Passmark's PerformanceTest 6.1 while running Windows Vista Enterprise, and that the system "offers such a high level of performance that any user should be satisfied." The review concludes with: "Sun undoubtedly has a winner with the Ultra 24 series of workstations, and other vendors will be hard-pressed to outperform it."

    Free Software Magazine review of the Ultra 20 M2 workstation highlights its features and performance on Solaris, Suse, Red Hat and Windows OS. Performance testing on each platform showed little variation between the platforms, though the reviewer praised the features included in Solaris 10 OS as making the Ultra 20 M2 run optimally. The reviewer ends the piece by stating: "Sun have managed to produce a very good machine in the Ultra 20M2. It's fast and capable, and has a good range of hardware ports and support. As a full 64-bit workstation it is hard to fault, especially when you consider that prices start just US$845 for a basic dual-core model."

Suffice it to say, you'd be hard-pressed to equal or surpass the performance of this box with any computing hardware available today."

    In its August "Workstation Supplement," MCAD Magazine posted a positive review of the Ultra 20 M2 as part of a workstation roundup. The review focused on the simplicity of the Ultra 20, its solid performance and new features such as the Quadro FX graphics card. The reviewer concluded that the Ultra 20 M2 is an excellent entry-level machine and is well equipped for the most mainstream CAD users.
