Welcome to the Sun Solution Center for High Performance Computing (HPC) in Hillsboro, Oregon. At this state-of-the-art benchmarking facility, Sun's HPC customers can "kick the tires" on one of the world's largest x64 compute clusters. With over 10 teraflops of compute capacity, the Sun Solution Center for HPC also comes complete with HPC experts on site to assist you in getting the highest possible performance on your end-user applications.

HPC is the application of computer technology to solve highly complex scientific and engineering problems such as drug discovery, automotive design, and climate modeling. No longer just for scientists, HPC is now commonly deployed in commercial settings because companies have recognized its value as a competitive tool.

Removing Risk from the Cutting Edge

Since HPC all about performance, HPC users are often the early adopters of the latest computing technology. But riding the cutting edge can be risky--often the newest widget doesn't quite work as advertised when it becomes part of a cluster of hundreds or perhaps thousands of interdependent computers.

The Sun Solution Center for HPC is continually refreshed with the latest processing, software, and interconnect technology. Systems are integrated at the rack level in the factory, ready to deploy into the Sun Solution Center for HPC.

The result? Lower risk and faster deployment. It's a novel concept. But that's Sun's idea of high performance computing.

Extremely Powerful and Extremely Power Efficienct

The Sun Solution Center for HPC is built with the fastest, most reliable, and energy efficient x64 servers in the industry. Customers choose Sun servers, StorageTek data management, and Grid Computing to solve their toughest computational challenges, from desktops to TeraFLOPS.

Today, the Sun Solution Center for HPC includes 664 systems with 2144 processor cores, all connected with a high-speed InfiniBand network. With over 10 teraflops of compute capacity, the cluster also demonstrates the extreme power efficiency of Sun's x64 systems. Compared to an equivalent center running Xeon-based servers, Sun's x64 Opteron-based servers save over 15 percent in overall power and cooling costs-a savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in a datacenter of this size!

Engage with the Sun Solution Center for HPC

As part of Sun's global network of Sun Solution Centers, the Sun Solution Center for HPC takes the guesswork (and surprises) out of implementing business solutions by bringing together the expertise of Sun and its partners to develop and test Sun platform-based solutions. For highly qualified customers that require proof-of-concept, Sun Solution Centers can dramatically increase customer satisfaction.
