Interoperability with Sun x64 Systems

• Sun x64 Servers based AMD Opteron processor run Solaris OS, Linux and Windows.
• Sun's Systems Group released the Sun Fire x64 Servers Management Pack 2.0 for MOM - Microsoft Operations Manager 2005. This pack enables full integration of Sun's x64 servers into MOM by adding full hardware-level monitoring for these servers.

• Sun Servers and Storage Systems are Windows Catalog Certified.
• Java Enterprise System, a revolutionary subscription-based approach to infrastructure software that reduces cost and complexity throughout the data center, includes industry leading open solutions for Identity Management, Messaging, Availability, Web Infrastructure and SOA application development and deployment.
• WS-Management will automate the complex automates the complex application provisioning process to make it quick and reliable for Solaris and Windows Server systems.

Interoperability for the Client and Desktop

Sun Ray Thin Clients allow users to securely use Windows in a low cost, low administration environment.

• The Sun Secure Global Desktop Software provides secure access to server-based applications running on Microsoft Windows, Solaris, Linux, HP-UX, AIX, Mainframe and Midrange systems from a wide variety of client platforms and devices.
• The Sun Ray Connector for Windows module in Sun Ray Software is based on Microsoft's RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) technology. This enables direct connection to Windows Terminal Services, so that Microsoft Windows applications can be displayed on the Sun Ray client without any middleware. With Controlled Access Mode feature in Sun Ray Software, customers can configure full-screen, Microsoft Windows desktops on Sun Ray Thin clients, along with all the security and mobility benefits unique to the architecture.
• We have tightly integrated Microsoft's Active Directory Federation Services and Sun's Java System Access Manager to improve Windows desktop to Web single-sign-on. This enables Windows desktop users to have single sign-on to securely access protected Web-based resources and applications.
• SunPCi IIIpro coprocessor card is a cost-effective, hardware-based solution for Sun systems that allows the sharing of data, peripherals, and network connections between Windows and the Solaris Operating System.
• StarOffice allows users to open, modify and resend any Microsoft Office documents for a fraction of the cost a Solaris, Linux or Windows platform.
• Sun Open Document Format (ODF) Plug-In Talks Microsoft Office - Sun announced a plug-in that allows two-way translation between ODF and Microsoft Office.

Interoperability for the Developer

Java has been at the core of Sun's Interoperability strategy since it's inception. With our Java Developer tools and Web Server, developers can rapidly innovate applications and Web services across multiple platforms and environments.

We have worked with Microsoft to deliver the best and most comprehensive interoperability with the .Net Framework 3.0 through Web services in our Sun Java Enterprise Edition stack, our application server and our NetBeans tools.
