The Sun Datacenter Switch 3X24 occupies just 1-4RUs (for two to 288 blade servers) and uses 1/3 the number of cables.

The Sun DS 3x24 leverages the Sun Blade 6048 InfiniBand Switched Network Express Module (NEM). This NEM serves as a compact modular leaf switch that fits into each Sun Blade 6048 shelf. Its on-board switching enables the support of up to 288 blade servers with the Sun Datacenter Switch 3x24 for commercial HPC applications, and extends up to PetaScale dimensions with up to four Sun DS 3456 units for a total of 13,824 end nodes for very large HPC deployments.
