Faster server response times for secure Web transactions.

A co-processor solution, the accelerator board off-loads the authentication function of SSL from the host processor. This frees the host processor to run the standard services and applications for which it was originally designed. The Sun Crypto Accelerator 1000 is able to perform over 4300 SSL operations per second and supports up to 500 Mbps 3DES bulk encryption.

The system is able to handle a greater number of simultaneous secure transactions with fewer time-outs and dropped connections.

Hardware and software encryption features.

The Sun Crypto Accelerator 1000 card features a hardware random number generator and highly tuned software algorithms that provide 2048-bit RSA encryption. The card uses the Broadcom BCM5821 Super-eCommerce Processor ASIC to implement the cryptographic acceleration function.

Support for dynamic reconfiguration of system domains.

The Sun Crypto Accelerator 1000 board and software are fully interoperable with dynamic reconfiguration and support dynamic insertion and removal of Sun Crypto Accelerator 1000 boards.

Provides SSL support within a dynamic reconfiguration environment, including continuous uptime even if the last board is removed.

Support for multiple boards within a domain.

The Sun Crypto Accelerator 1000 board is able to handle over 4300 operations per second with 16 CPUs, and it is scalable to four boards on applicable Sun Fire[tm] servers.

Compatibility with industry-standard software and hardware.

The Sun Crypto Accelerator 1000 board is compatible with most Sun Enterprise and midrange Sun servers. It sits on a 32/64-bit, 33/66-MHz PCI bus. The board is compatible with PKCS 11 supported SSL on applications such as SunONE Web Server software versions 6.x. The card also supports the Apache 1.3.12 Web server software, which is bundled with the Solaris 8 Operating System.
