POLICY

Complete, detailed end use and end user information is required for international orders to ensure compliance with U.S. export controls.

1.0 PROCEDURE

When placing an order with Sun, customers must provide complete end use and end user information unless International Trade Services (ITS) otherwise provide. Sun partners, resellers, and distributors are responsible for supplying end use and end user information that is sufficiently detailed as described below.

2.0 END USE INFORMATION

Complete end use information shall specify what the end user will do with the product in the order. End use information should include a clear description of the project in which the ordered product will be used. Vague one or two word phrases are insufficient.

Examples of sufficient and insufficient end uses:

INSUFFICIENT SUFFICIENT
in-house application database for generating monthly billing statements
imaging imaging used to determine topographical layout of land for coal mining
CAD applications CAD development of microprocessors for cellular telephones

Export controls on a computer, cluster of computers and CPU's used to enhance computer performance are largely determind by the configuration of the computer(s). For these particular types of items, end use information must specify the following details:

2.1 For orders containing CPU's that will be installed into newly ordered Sun system(s), specify:

The type(s) of system(s) (e.g. E5000) into which the CPU's will be installed

The speed (in MHz) and total number of CPU's in the system(s)

2.2 For orders containing upgrades or CPU's that will be installed into a Sun system that the customer already possesses, specify:

The Sun sales/purchase order numbers under which each system was previously purchased

      The type(s) of system(s) to be upgraded (e.g. E5000)

The speed (in MHz) and total number of CPU's in the system(s) prior to installation of the upgrades or CPU's currently being ordered

The total number and speed of CPU's in the system(s) after upgrade

2.3 For orders containing clusters, specify:

The type(s) of system(s) (e.g. E6000) that will form the clustered aggregation

The Sun sales/purchase order numbers under which each system was previously purchased

The speed (in MHz) and number of CPU's within each system after clustering

Examples of complete end use information:

    2 x 400-MHz CPU's will upgrade an E4000 currently containing 2 400-MHz CPU's. E4000 previously purchased by end user under 456789-1/MOXXX; Total of 4 x 400-MHz CPU's in upgraded system

    X1131 will be used to cluster E3000 containing 4 336-MHz CPU's with E4000 containing 2 400-MHz CPU's

Sunscreen SPF200 global version for use by ABC U, Registrar's Office, to secure student files

3.0 END USER INFORMATION

Complete end user information shall consist of the following details:
