New 1.015 GHz UltraSPARC® III Cu processor debuts across entire Sun Blade 2000 workstation product line.

15.Oct.02--Featuring the faster, more powerful 1.015 GHz UltraSPARC® III Cu processor, the new Sun Blade 2000 workstation delivers a significant increase in computing capabilities to the 64-bit workstation market. What's more, the increased performance comes at the same price points to the previously announced systems based on the 900 MHz UltraSPARC III Cu processor.

The new GHz-based Sun Blade 2000 workstations couple the 1.015 GHz UltraSPARC Cu processor with 8 MB of Level 2 cache per CPU, supporting up to 8 GB of main memory with up to 146 GB of 10,000-rpm Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) disk storage, offering a powerful architecture to run the latest compute-intensive jobs in high-end technical markets. It is an ideal platform for customers who work with extremely large data sets on their desktop and require the use of visualization tools to analyze that data.

Designed to meet the needs of the high-end workstation market, the Sun Blade 2000 workstation comes with a wide array of powerful components in a balanced architecture.

• Processing Power: Each system can support up to two UltraSPARC III Cu processors.
• Expandable Memory: Base system ships with 1 GB of memory, expandable up to 8 GB.
• High Throughput Data Access: A 73-GB Fibre Channel disk drive is standard; up to two drives can be supported internally, external FC-AL connector for external storage.
• High-End Graphics: Two UPA slots and four 64-bit PCI slots support a host of 2-D and 3-D graphics options, supporting Sun PGX64, Sun XVR-500, and Sun XVR-1000 graphics accelerators.
• 64-Bit Architecture: The Sun Blade 2000 workstation features Sun's award-winning 64-bit system architecture: the UltraSPARC III Cu processor and the Solaris 8 Operating Environment.
• Grid-Enabled: System resources can be pooled using the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) Grid Engine software, so users can harness the Sun Blade 2000 workstation's memory and processor power over a network.

Equipped with up to two Sun XVR-1000 graphics accelerators, the Sun Blade 2000 workstation distinguishes itself with breakthrough personal visualization capabilities providing industry-leading resolutions and video output formats.

• Dynamic Multisampling: Visualize more data points per pixel--up to 16 times the number of samples--for a smoother look, more precise definition, and greater accuracy in viewing complex data models. The Sun XVR-1000 graphics accelerator dynamically changes the number of samples as users change the size of the window on their screen, increasing data rendering quality on-screen.
  
• 30-Bit Color and 116-Bit Frame Buffer: Add more shades to your palette with 10 bits of red, 10 bits of green, and 10 bits of blue for greater color fidelity in complex visualizations or simulations.
  
• Large Memory: Take advantage of 256 MB of texture memory, 72 MB of frame buffer memory, and 32 MB of processor memory for loading and visualizing your complex datasets.
  
• High Resolution Stereo Graphics: Support the latest Stereoscopic environments with Stereo resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 at up to 120Hz.
  
• Multihead Display Support: A Sun Blade 2000 workstation with dual Sun XVR-1000 graphics accelerators can drive up to four high resolution displays, spanning single or multiple complex images across several displays at once.
