Dynetix

"We recently benchmarked our Solaris 10 based, multi-threaded HDL/ESL simulation system the V2Sim on the Sun Fire T2000 server. We found that the T2000 server with the 32-thread UltraSPARC T1, chip multithreading processor with large caches demonstrated the best scalability when compared to results obtained from tests on other SMP servers based on Intel, HP and AMD microprocessors running Windows and Linux operating systems. In fact, on simulating several large-scale (billion plus logic gates) custom integrated circuit designs we saw near linear performance speed-up of the V2Sim simulation system on the T2000 servers. We could not achieve such scalability on the other platforms. Based on this performance, we would highly recommend the SunFire T2000 servers to all our V2Sim customers."

"Our customers rely on our throughput-oriented ADABAS database to comply with their time-sensitive business operations and workload requirements."

Uli Pleiss, Vice President ADABAS R&D, Software AG

In a joint effort, Software AG and Sun have extensively benchmarked and tuned the ADABAS solution in the Sun Solution Center facilities in Scotland and Germany.

Whilst the single-socket SPARC Enterprise server T5120 already delivered ground-breaking throughput and scalability, the new generation T5140/T5240 dual-socket models achieve almost twice the performance with basically the same level of power consumption.

"Running on the new SPARC Enterprise T5140/T5240 servers powered by UltraSPARC T2 plus processors on Solaris OS, ADABAS delivered excellent performance and scalability results. Using technologies such as Logical Domains or Solaris 10 Containers,su our customers will be able to virtualize and then consolidate their database workloads to achieve higher scalability and a greater performance with less power and space."

Uli Pleiss, Vice President ADABAS R&D, Software AG

Sybase

"Sybase is one of Sun's longest-running partners, with a strong relationship built over more than 20 years. The Sybase IQ analytics server has set the Guinness World Record for the World's Largest Data Warehouse on a Sun server. Sybase's ASE Cluster Edition features patent-pending Virtualized Resource Management (VRM) technology that can take advantage of the multicore power of the new T5440 CoolThreads server with its quad-core, 256 thread architecture, enabling IT departments to operate multiple applications on one installation. Based on our experience and usage of earlier Sun CMT servers, we are confident that organizations relying on Sybase for critical database and data warehouse applications will find the T5440 server a scalable and cost-effective platform."

3rd

"The 3rd Degree's mobile engagement platform allows our enterprise and mobile network clients to run sophisticated customer interaction campaigns such as market research, mobile forms and interactive channels via SMS, WAP and .mobi. Our load profile is a difficult balancing act, between high volumes of small transactions and more compute intensive reporting, but both need to be real time. Carrier grade reliability and security are a given. Sun has matured its CMT architecture so that it can support load profiles of both the message processing and the reporting side. We use 5220's to run Glassfish clusters across Solaris 10 Zones to great effect and expect the new quad socket T5440 to deliver more efficiency and cost savings by enabling the same capability on our db tier."

Phil Martin, Managing Director, The 3rd Degree
