IBM Lotus Domino Configuration Notes

Domino is a throughput-oriented application implemented as multiple processes running multiple threads, and thrives in the thread-rich environment offered by CoolThreads servers. Lab tests and benchmarks have shown excellent scalability, and actual deployments in production have produced enthusiastic responses.

Use any of the Domino versions that support Solaris 10, which at this writing are Domino 6.5.x and Domino 7.0.x (but not Domino 6.0.x or earlier).

Domino uses a relatively large amount of memory, either directly or on behalf of the file system. For CoolThreads processors, most sites find that 16GB of memory is too little and 64GB is overkill; 32GB seems to be the sweet spot for these servers.

CoolThreads servers use the same Domino and Solaris 10 tunings as other UltraSPARC machines; no CoolThreads-specific adjustments are needed. For general information on tuning for optimal Domino performance on Solaris, consult these documents:
