Build your system with your choice of products and services. That's our offer. Now you don't have to do it yourself. We're trained, equipped, and ready for it. Choose only the services you need, and let us know if you need a service you don't see.

Engineering Design and Validation Services

The scope of this service depends on the solution complexity as well as your architectural, product engineering, and business process documentation. The following capabilities are offered: review your solution for scalability, availability, reliability, manageability, manufacturability, testability, and installability; develop recommendations on architectural and design improvements; develop detailed platform design; build prototype; develop acceptance criteria and test; and manage certification processes, such as Electromagnetic Frequency Interference (EFI) certification for custom solutions. Additional capabilities include third party component recommendations, power and cooling recommendations, and rack layout recommendations. Back–line architectural support, from racks and cables to air and power, software configuration, making sure that all is in order under the hood.

Factory Integration Services

The core of the Sun Customer Ready program, this service starts with the factory preparation and ensures that the processes and routines for the integration and testing are developed and set up at the Sun manufacturing facilities. Once the setups are completed and signed off with the customer, recurring ordering can begin. When an order is received, the components of each integrated platform will be assembled in Sun's manufacturing facilities and will then be installed, configured, and tested in accordance with the design and agreements.

Materials Services

Have Sun be your one–stop–shop for all purchasing needs, including third–party partner products. Having the Sun Customer Ready program manage the myriad vendors and consolidate everything during factory integration can reduce your overall lead–times, from planning to power–up and even further, as well as ensuring everything works together.

Customer Access

Remote acceptance testing for prototypes and first articles, and/or on–site customer suite, access to Customer Ready systems, engineers, and management.

OEM Programs

Many of our OEM customers want to outsource their operations where they do not differentiate, and focus on their core value. By partnering with us, you can use the Sun Customer Ready program to streamline your supply chain. We provide services from a program office for supply chain management, including special services like part numbering, labeling, overboxing, product life cycle management, NEBS compliance for the telecommunications industry, and many support options.

OEM Lifecycle Management Services: These services address the change and quality management requirements for customer products and programs during the life span of the project. A robust change management and project management methodology is employed to ensure quality control and to monitor progress through the lifecycle, thus helping to deliver predictable results. Sun will establish and maintain a customer–specific product catalog in line with the agreed–upon change control process to ensure the integrity of the customer platform during order intake, build, and integration, testing, shipping, and deployment.

OEM Managed Deployment Services: Managed Deployment services enable OEMs a one–stop solution for complex customer platform rollouts around the globe. The Sun Customer Ready Program will help provide solution deployment processes (ordering, sourcing, shipping, site preparation, installation, and acceptance testing) for integrated platforms. The program may also include the development and implementation of an integral supply chain to support production platform construction and to meet the agreed–upon lead times. Sun can define, in cooperation with the customer, the sourcing model and the terms and conditions for complementary third–party product supply.

OEM Packaging Services: Full flexibility in packaging down to palleting, overboxing, and labeling.

Labeling

Asset labeling, serial numbers, MAC addresses, and data archiving are all standard features, plus you can add Department of Defense Unique Identification labeling.

System Testing

Full flexibility in system testing

  • Visual inspection (mechanical parts operational, exterior scratches)
  • Sun VTS (Verification Test Suite) exercise of disks, memory, CPU, network interfaces
  • Solution–specific application test cases
  • Remote VPN configuration and inspection by customer prior to shipment

Hardware Configuration

Your server hardware, configured and thoroughly tested, including networking, service processors, domains, storage RAID devices, terminal servers and KMM devices, switches, and third-party cards and drivers.

Software Installation and Configuration

Standard and personalized loads of the Solaris 10 OS (SPARC and x86) and patches, RedHat and SuSE Linux, BIOS and firmware updates on Sun equipment. Sun's portfolio of software products, including but not exclusive to Solaris Volume Manager, Sun N1 software including Sun N1 Grid Engine, and Veritas storage software can all be loaded in Sun's factories. Customers can also provide a "gold disk" of their software stack to load onto all their Sun systems.

Co-Planning For Compressed Schedules

Got an extremely short deadline? We're on it. Especially for repeat business, our Co-Planning team will jump in and join your team, and collaborate to accelerate. By working together as a team, we can forecast demand, position components and finished goods, and deliver on critically short lead times.

Customer Ready and Enterprise Installation Services (EIS)

Many of Sun's largest systems include EIS as a part of the product. To accelerate the process, we can use factory automation to shorten the process from days to hours, typically without adding to the manufacturing schedule. The Sun Customer Ready program can complete 80 percent of the EIS checklist, leaving a small amount for the on-site service person. It saves time and improves the quality of the delivery at no additional cost to you. For instance, Sun Fire E20K, E25K, E6900, and E4900 servers typically include such installation services. Ask for your installation to start in the factory with the Sun Customer Ready program.

Service and Support

Server and Array Enterprise Installation Services: Combining Enterprise Installation Services with the Sun Customer Ready program brings together the best of both worlds. This low cost service provides initial architectural and design support, followed by factory integration of your system, then support from an on-site Sun Service expert to ensure smooth deployments with your new Sun Customer Ready program.

SunSpectrum Support: For a fixed monthly fee, SunSpectrum support provides in–warranty and post–warranty service coverage for Sun hardware, the Solaris Operating System, and bundled and embedded software. Coverage can include technical support and on–site service, software releases, account management services, system monitoring, and expanded online technical resources. Flexible levels of support allow customers to choose a level of assistance that meets their unique requirements.

Third-Party Product Support: Custom support offerings may be made available for third–party products upon business review.
