Platform Value

Upgrade for less

The Sun Fire V125 server provides an upgrade path from the Sun Fire V100/V120 and other single-CPU servers, especially if you need support for Solaris 8. Based on the UltraSPARC IIIi technology and the JBus architecture, the Sun Fire V125 server automatically upgrades your compute power and data transfer throughput at a competitive price.

A true systems approach

The Sun Fire V125 server comes pre-loaded and pre-tested at no extra cost with Solaris OS, system management functionality, and high-speed network connectivity.

Affordable networking

Two on-board RJ45 10/100/1000BASE-T (Copper) Gigabit Fast Ethernet ports deliver exceptional networking throughput. Perfect for firewalling and redundancy, two Ethernet ports on the motherboard offer you considerable savings compared to using separate PCI cards to obtain the same functionality.

Cradle-to-grave management support

The Sun Fire V125 server comes with integrated Advanced Lights Out Manager (common to Sun's new Blade servers), Sun Management Center software, SNMP support, and easy-to-use provisioning and patch management software through Solaris OS.

World-class services

Whether it's a Sun Fire V125 server or a multimillion-dollar Sun Fire 25K server, customers are supported by Sun's world-class Services organization.

Investment protection

Ready to grow? Here's how to save money from the start. Sun's end-to-end SPARC/Solaris architecture gives you binary and application compatibility from this single-processor server to 106 processors. As you grow, this guarantee ensures operational efficiency and eliminates the cost of application porting. In addition, Sun offers added values that are consistent through the Sun Fire product line, such as front-to-back cooling, integrated remote management features, rack optimization, and hot-swappable components.

Web server software included

Sun Java Enterprise System Software is pre-loaded for a 90 day free trial of Sun's complete, reliable, and secure Web server solution.

Sun Upgrade Advantage Program

Receive up to 20 percent off when you trade-in an UltraSPARC system for a new Sun Fire V125, V215, V245, or V445 server. Sun's Trade-in Program can really make your budget go a long way and help you upgrade your hardware sooner.

RoHS-Compliant Systems

The Sun Fire V125 server conforms with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive (2002/95/EC) for the European Community. As with comparable servers from other manufacturers, these systems do use the exemption for lead-based solder, RoHS-5.

Sun Server Serviceability

Quicker, easier, cheaper serviceability features

This server is fully equipped with Sun Fire family serviceability features designed to save you money and time:

  • Access the system without tools for easy service and maintenance.
  • Configure your Sun Fire V125 servers with one or two front-accessible, hot-plug Ultra160 SCSI 73 GB disks.
  • The industry’s only System Configuration Card (SCC) stores the server's configuration. To load a new configuration on a system, just pull out the SCC card and insert the new SCC. You don't even need to remove the system cover.
  • InstalCheck lets you confirm proper initial configuration and installation.
  • The ALOM module lets administrators monitor and manage power status at the sub-board level remotely. With the ASR feature, administrators can configure the Sun Fire V125 server to restart automatically.
  • Indicator lights on the front and back of the chassis help you quickly detect problems from either side of a rack row. A fault indicator light stays on following a fault even if the system has been powered off.
  • A front-panel power switch (behind the flip-down bezel) provides easy access.
  • Rackmount slides are included for easy server installation and removal.

Systems Innovation

A thoroughly proven processor family

The Sun Fire V125 server uses the UltraSPARC IIIi processor, which has been deployed in over 400,000 entry-level systems and is one of the industry’s most scalable, reliable, and secure architectures.

Availability through reliability

There are few metrics more important than system uptime, and the Sun Fire V125 server is an economical approach to deploying services redundantly. Its 1 RU size and low cost give you an advantage in redundantly deploying services for higher availability compared to other systems. Its dual Gigabit Ethernet ports also improve redundancy for reliability.

A faster system bus

This server's system bus delivers high throughput paths clocked at 167 MHz with 2.67 GB/sec system throughput with the 1.0 GHz CPU. The data bus width is 144 bits, which includes 128 data bits and 16 ECC bits.

Lights out, costs down, security up

Sun's innovative Advanced Lights Out Manager gives you remote administration via a CLI and a GUI (future support) remote console, with interfaces to Ethernet networks or serial ports. Complete monitoring capabilities provide detailed logs for easy troubleshooting. The power-on/power-off functionality gives you full control of service availability: The server can be remotely powered on with no physical user intervention—a simple mouse click on the remote management console is all that's needed. Granular user access control lets you fully control individual access to specific capabilities, such as simple monitoring versus system-level shutdown capabilities.

Sun security available

The optional Sun Crypto Accelerator 500 card, based on the BroadComm BCM 5822 coprocessor, provides encryption protocols such as SSL, RSA, and DES without the need to consume a PCI slot. This gives added flexibility by not having to dedicate CPU cycles to key functionality required by applications deployed in Tier 1 and Tier 2.

Flexibility that Saves

Multiple deployment choices

Sun backs the Sun Fire V125 server with a full family of entry-level servers to accommodate your growing IT needs. With these machines, you can run the Solaris OS on UltraSPARC, Linux, and x86 platforms. But when you need low-cost UltraSPARC processing, the Sun Fire V125 server can help you:

  • Alleviate shrinking IT budget pressures with the UltraSPARC IIIi processor in a compact, space-saving 1 RU rackmount package.
  • Achieve high availability for mission-critical applications with redundant, hot-swap components and a pre-installed System Configuration Card that can transfer the system identity from one system to another.
  • Provide fast and secure Web transactions without sacrificing CPU cycles or taking up a PCI slot.
  • Secure your transactions with its integrated SSL card option on the system motherboard.
  • Enhance manageability with pre-installed Advanced Lights Out Manager (ALOM) and Sun Management Console software.

Available as a Sun System Pack

Sun System Pack

The Sun Fire V125 server is available as a Sun System Pack, which combines the server with the right services as one offering, enabling customers to yield the most value from their IT assets. Sun System Packs offer significant value advantages over traditional warranty plans by delivering higher value services, such as better service coverage, automatic OS updates and training credits, which enable customers to accelerate performance from day one. The predictable, transparent pricing for Sun System Packs is less than purchasing the server and services individually, and in some cases it costs less than the basic warranty.
