System Service Processor

SSP 3.5

System Service Processor (SSP) 3.5 offers the following new features:

  • Support for 466 MHz processors
  • Performance improvements that enable the SSP to function continuously under adverse conditions, when CPU and memory utilization is high
  • The capability to run lightweight, third-party applications (other than the SSP software and the Solaris operating environment) on an SSP workstation or server, referred to as an OpenSSP
  • Two different models for dynamic reconfiguration:
    • DR model 2.0, which consists of the DR functionality previously provided on the Sun Enterprise 10000 server
    • DR model 3.0, which uses the automated dynamic reconfiguration (ADR) commands on the SSP to perform domain DR operations

DR model 3.0 also interfaces with the Reconfiguration Coordination Manager (RCM) feature of the Solaris operating environment, which enables you to coordinate DR operations with other applications running on the domain, such as database, clustering, and volume management software.

The software is available as a ZIP file capable of being unpacked with the unzip command present in the Solaris 7 operating environment and forward. If you are running in the Solaris 2.6 operating environment, you can obtain the unzip command by applying patch 106193-05.

Once you have downloaded the file, type the following UNIX command at a command prompt in the directory in which the ZIP file resides:

cksum ssp_3_5_sparc.zip

The command should report the following information:

914226859 12544511 ssp_3_5_sparc.zip

This output confirms the successful download of SSP 3.5. Any other results indicate a faulty download that must be retried. Do not attempt to use corrupt ZIP archives.

See the Sun Enterprise 10000 SSP 3.5 Installation Guide and Release Notes for instructions on:

  • Installing or upgrading the SSP software

  • Installing or upgrading the Solaris operating environment on Sun Enterprise 10000 domains

This document is available as a Postscript file, SSPinstall.ps, in the System_Service_Processor_3.5/Docs directory.

SSP3.5 is also available with documentation translated to the Japanese (ja) language. The cksum command output for this package is:

3134678035 16115421 ssp_3_5_sparc_L10N.zip

SSP 3.4

System Service Processor (SSP) 3.4 consists of the following new features:

  • Support for Automatic SSP Failover in a dual-SSP configuration.

  • Support for Automatic Control Board Failover in a dual-Control Board configuration.

  • Enhanced performance in dynamic reconfiguration (DR) Attach operations.

The software is available as a ZIP file capable of being unpacked with the unzip command present in Solaris 7 operating environment and forward. If you are running Solaris 2.6 operating environment, you can obtain the unzip command by applying patch  106193-05.

Once you have downloaded the file, type the following UNIX command at a command prompt in the directory in which the ZIP file resides:

    cksum ssp_3_4_sparc.zip

The command should report the following information:

    77089813       9067523 ssp_3_4_sparc.zip

This output confirms the successful download of SSP 3.4.  Any other results indicate a faulty download that must be retried. Do not attempt to use corrupt ZIP archives.
