Sun's new UltraSPARC IV+ 64-bit Chip Multithreading (CMT) processor has significantly enhanced cores, 2-MB on-chip L2 cache, and a new 32-MB L3 cache using the latest 90nm process technology. It delivers over 5 times higher performance than UltraSPARC III servers, and over double the performance of previous generation UltraSPARC IV servers in the same footprint. The UltraSPARC IV+ processor is supported in previous generation Sun Fire E20K and 12K servers via in-chassis upgrades.

As a member of the industry's most scalable server line, it scales up to 36 processors, executing up to 72 simultaneous compute threads, and supports up to 576 GB of memory to provide maximum headroom for data-intensive applications.

Customers can take advantage of the Capacity on Demand (COD) offering in order to reserve hot spare COD boards that could be activated when needed.
