If you've just installed any of the four new SPARC Enterprise M4000-M9000 servers, you know they are optimized for 24x7 mission critical environments and are highly scalable. That's why their I/O is scalable also. The new Sun External I/O Expansion Unit allows incremental expansion of 6x or 12x industry standard PCIe (up to x8 lane) and /or PCI-X adapter cards to meet any demand.

4RU rackmount I/O expansion, when you need it

Their low cost and compact size means you can purchase them one at a time as you need the extra I/O and fit them in existing racks. They're highly modular and accommodate mixed PCIe and PCI-X cards by using adjustable card carriers.

High Availability Design

The Sun External I/O Expansion Unit was designed for Sun SPARC Enterprise servers, and it incorporates the same quality of high-availability features. It has hot-swappable I/O and redundant power and cooling for higher uptime.

• Hot Pluggable I/O cards and power supply/fan units let you install or replace cards and components without bringing the active cards down.
• Full integration and control of the unit by host server simplifies setup, management, and I/O resource sharing by the host server.
• Host system monitoring, Fault Management Architecture diagnostics, and Dynamic Reconfiguration support let you keep it tuned and running smoothly.

Easy to Integrate and Manage

4RU form factor in 19” standard rackmount cabinets

It's a small and convenient modular package, perfect for incremental expandability based on available rackmount space. That lets you expand I/O without expanding your data center space.

I/O cards appear internal and local to the system

Once the I/O Expansion Unit is installed, the I/O Expansion Unit slots are treated as though they're local to the system. The Link card cable connection is invisible to the OS.

Simpler management is better

Simplified management and monitoring provide high availability. There's nothing extra for you to do. Software control and monitoring are built into the host system XCP software.
