New SPARC64 VII Processor

The Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 server is powered by the SPARC64 VII processor, the same processor used in the world-record breaking M4000-M9000 systems. The SPARC64 VII features:

  • 2.52-GHz processor, with two threads per core
  • 5 MB of on-chip L2 cache
  • Improved reliability features, including core isolation and increased checkers


Extreme RAS Features, Including XSCF

The Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 Server includes several key RAS features, including the powerful Extended System Control Facility (XSCF), which is a set of monitoring and control capabilities that improves reliability and communicates system status to administrators.

The XSCF includes:

  • Management of hardware configuration, system health, and error monitoring and reporting
  • Dedicated processor independent from system processor
  • Communication via shell and Web interfaces, SNMP agents, and email
  • SSH or SSL encryption capability
Additional system RAS features include:
  • Automatic recovery and instruction level retry
  • Extended ECC memory protection
  • Dynamic L1 and L2 cache way degradation
  • EPU instruction retry
  • Fault Isolation (Chip,processors, I/O, ASICS) rich check/recovery mechanisms in processors
