Features and Benefits

The Sun Netra CP3220 ATCA blade server gives you high-performance AMD Opteron processing, surrounded by equally capable components - high-capacity memory, advanced I/O, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet networking. And it lets you run the operating system that works best for each workload - Solaris 10 OS x64, Linux, or Microsoft Windows 2003 Server.

Key Benefits

  • High-throughput AdvancedTCA computing for datacenter density
  • Low-cost upgradeability to quad-core single-socket processing
  • Balanced components - processing, I/O, networking - for maximum throughput
  • Advanced I/O saves time and money, improves availability

Focused compute density

Single-socket quad core processing

AMD's Revision F common processor is available in a single socket, quad-core configurations. It cuts your transition costs and TCO while maximizing your x64 investment. Plus, new AMD technologies make the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors the most power-efficient server CPUs they've ever produced. That's what you want for high density. Plus, a single-socket quad-core system can save a lot of money on by-socket software licenses, such as Oracle.

Matched component design

The Netra CP3220 ATCA blade server wouldn't be a balanced high-density system without the memory, I/O, and networking to accommodate quad-core processing. Using Sun's Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) slots, it gives you up to 64 GB of memory in eight sockets, easy-access I/O, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) networking.

Advanced rear-access I/O

Easy access I/O saves time and money, and it boosts uptime. But it's also a good way to improve density. Sun's Advanced Rear Transition (ARTMs) Modules are the newest innovation in I/O. Three standards-based modules give you rear I/O access to high-speed x8 PCIe, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and serial connections to Zone 3. They also let you replace boards without disconnecting cables. And because they're based on industry standards, and are not proprietary, you'll see some new ARTM solutions come from independent vendors.

Here are our current AdvancedARTMs:

  • XCP32x0-RTM-HD2-Z Dual 146 GB SAS drives, 2-SAS egress, 1 GbE, one serial
  • XCP32x0-RTM-FC-Z Dual 4 Gbps FC HBA, 7 GbE, one serial
  • XCP32x0-RTM-NT-Z Dual 10 GbE, 3 GbE, one serial

PICMG ready

The server is compliant with PICMG 3.0 R2 and PICMG 3.1 Option 9 and can be plugged into any of the user node slots of the Sun Netra CT900 ATCA blade server — or any ATCA/PICMG 3.0- and 3.1-compliant chassis.
