Sun Netra CP3260 ATCA Blade Server

Sun Netra CP3260 ATCA Blade Server

Get It

Features and Benefits

Now you can leverage the extreme threading and scalability of the new UltraSPARC T2 processor to solve your toughest telecom datacenter challenges. Each Sun Netra CP3260 ATCA blade server lets you tackle 10G line rate data plane workloads using the Sun Netra Data Plane Suite software. Using LDoms machine virtualization, the control plane processing can be consolidated within the same blade. For media processing, mediaLib and CodecLib are unmatched when powered by the UltraSPARC T2 processor's eight floating point units. And for security processing, its integrated on-chip cryptographic processing per core is built-in.

Key Benefits

  • 10G throughput AdvancedTCA computing
  • Open systems displace proprietary telecom solutions
  • Beats all other ATCA solutions in multithreaded performance
  • Solves a broad range of telcom workloads from a unified architecture
  • Hardware, software, and networking virtualization support

Focused compute density

Adjust your thinking, raise your limits

The Sun Netra CP3260 server is your single-blade solution for extreme per-shelf compute density. More important, it's targeted at your most demanding workloads in the control plane, data plane, and application serving. Here's how. Specify six or eight cores of Sun UltraSPARC T2 processing to get 48-64 compute threads in a single-socket blade. Take advantage of the new on-chip cryptographic processing and floating point units (FPUs). Fill up to eight FB-DIMM memory sockets per blade. And use all eight Gigabit Ethernet channels and the Advanced Rear Transition Module I/O. It's an extremely efficient, power-saving blade module that can transform your throughput and network infrastructure potential.

Advanced I/O is critical

The server has a balanced I/O architecture through the use of new Advanced Rear Transition Module (ARTM) technology, which provides high-speed x8 PCIe, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and serial connections to Zone 3 in a standardized way. The following ARTMs are offered by Sun:

  • Dual 146 GB SAS drives, 2 SAS egress, 1 GbE, 1 serial {XCP32x0-RTM-HD-Z}
  • Dual 4 Gb/s FC HBA, 7 GbE, 1 serial (available early '08) {XCP32x0-RTM-FC-Z}
  • Dual 10 GbE, 3 GbE, 1 serial (available early '08) {XCP32x0-RTM-NT-Z}

PICMG ready

The server is compliant with PICMG 3.0 R2 and PICMG 3.1 Option 9 and can be plugged into any of the user node slots of the Sun Netra CT900 ATCA blade server — or any ATCA/PICMG 3.0- and 3.1-compliant chassis.

Adopt a unified architecture

Sun Unified Network Platform (SUN-P)

SUN-P enables the Network Equipment Providers to radically consolidate the network and lower the cost of the first subscriber thereby enabling carriers to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy new wireless services. Based on the Sun Netra rackmount and ATCA blade servers, virtualization, HA middleware, system management, Sun Netra Data Plane Suite, and Solaris 10, Sun Unified Network Platform provides an architecture for:

  • Radical consolidation of network elements across both the Control-Plane and Data-Plane. Today, NEPs must build disparate systems and application types for both Control- and Data-Planes, resulting in higher development costs and longer time to market.
  • Lowering the cost of the first subscriber by consolidating and virtualizing the infrastructure with Sun system that scales well on the low-end and lowers the cost of the first subscriber to $1 per user.
  • Choice and openness with Sun's open, industry standards compliant, COTS-based systems.

Open solutions no one else can match

Traditionally, large telecom workloads have been handled with custom technologies such as FPGA, DSP, NPUs, and others in proprietary telecom form factors. Want to break away? When the Sun Netra CP3260 ATCA blade server is configured with Logical Domains (LDoms) machine virtualization, you're in for a radical consolidation of these workloads using a Sun unified network platform architecture. Open solutions rule, and now you can take advantage while improving performance and reducing costs.

The most capable OS for today's telco networks, included

Sun Netra CP3260 ATCA Blade Servers run the pre-installed, fully licensed Solaris 10 Operating System. It's the most advanced OS on the planet, and it's a key part of the Sun unified network platform architecture you get with our blade servers. It's ideal for virtualization, working in conjunction with the Sun UltraSPARC T2 processor's features. If your datacenter hasn't already adopted Solaris 10, check out the power of its features, such as Solaris Containers, Dtrace, Predictive Self-Healing, and ZFS.
