Sun Remote System Control (RSC) for Sun Fire V480, Sun Fire V490, Sun Fire V880, and Sun Fire V890 Servers

Download Software

Remote System Control provides remote management and administration software for Sun Fire V480, Sun Fire V490, Sun Fire V880, and Sun Fire V890 servers. It is a standard feature on these products. RSC features include:

  • Event notification via interactive interfaces, email or pager of hardware and software failures.
  • Remote internal environmental monitoring (e.g. CPUs, disks, fans, power supplies).
  • Remote power on, power off and reset.
  • The ability to view boot logs and run logs.
RSC provides both a graphical user interface (GUI) and a command-line interface (CLI).  RSC physical interfaces include serial and Ethernet ports.

System Requirements

You can install RSC 2.2.x software on:
  • A Sun Fire V890 server running one of the following operating environments:
    • Solaris 8 (02/04) or later.
    • Solaris 9 (04/04) or later.
  • A Sun Fire V490 server running one of the following operating environments:
    • Solaris 8 (02/04) or later.
    • Solaris 9 (04/04) or later.
  • A Sun Fire V880 server running the Solaris 8 (7/01) Operating Environment or later.
  • A Sun Fire V480 server running the Solaris 8 (02/02) Operating Environment or later.
    • Solaris 2.6
    • Solaris 7
    • Solaris 8
Additionally, you can install the RSC 2.2.x client graphical user interface on:
  • Any other computer running the Solaris 2.6 Operating Environment or a subsequent compatible release (though consult the release notes of the particular RSC release for JRE requirements)
  • Any computer running one of the following Microsoft Windows operating environments:
    • Windows 95
    • Windows 98
    • Windows NT 40
    • Windows 2000
    • Windows XP
You must install and configure RSC on the supported platforms prior to using RSC.

The RSC command-line interface is available on:

  • Systems with telnet client software
  • ASCII character terminals
  • Systems running ASCII terminal emulation software

RSC Software Installation and Configuration

The RSC software is provided with the Software Supplement for the Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 Operating Environment CDs. The software can also be found at the Sun Download Center. For assistance with the RSC software download, read our Installation and Configuration Information.

It is always important to check for the latest RSC patches at SunSolve. In some cases using RSC without installing a patch may, in very rare circumstances, cause a problem that makes RSC unusable. The RSC user manual with configuration instructions can be found at docs.sun.com.
