Once in a while, a single innovation is so dramatic, it affects
everything around it, for both customers and competitors. The Solaris 10
Operating System, Sun SPARC processors, and the Sun UltraSPARC T1
processor are perfect examples. Now, we've combined all three to give
Sun customers a distinct advantage over their competitors. Introducing
the Sun SPARC Enterprise Server family.
Scalable, Mainframe-class Computing for the Open Systems Market
Sun's newest innovation in open systems computing is here: datacenter quality, mainframe-class, 24x7 mission-critical servers for open systems markets. They give you extreme scalability, sophisticated RAS features, and SPARC64 VI processing for large workloads, databases, BIDW, and OLTP.
The family also includes two rebranded servers that feature the Sun UltraSPARC T1 processor with CoolThreads technology. They're compact rack-optimized servers with up to eight cores with four threads per core. They're quick, 32-simultaneous threads are ideal for Web 2.0 and application tier environments, as well as OLTP database environments.
Introducing Sun's New SPARC Enterprise Systems, the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 and T5220 servers double the number of processing threads and increase floating point capabilities 8 times over the previous generation, and are the first servers to integrate 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology and I/O directly on the chip.

IT Space
"With the Sun SPARC Enterprise M9000 server, we enjoy unparalleled
response times, the highest ratios of security, performance and
flexibility, and costs that are nearly 50 percent less than former
platforms."
Carlos Lafitte Advisor, IT Space (technology subsidiary of Grupo Villar Mir)
"The Sun SPARC Enterprise Servers family of products based on Solaris 10 are a solid platform for IT consolidation and rehosting mainframe applications using "the" BEA Mainframe Rehosting solution."
Wai Wong, Executive VP of Engineering , BEA
"The scalability and reliability of the SPARC Enterprise systems based
on Solaris 10 are ideal for customers to deploy the most demanding of
SAS Enterprise Intelligence Platform products and solutions."
Craig Rubendall, SAS Director of Research & Development
"Swisscom IT Services has successfully beta tested the new Sun SPARC
Enterprise M5000 system and we are convinced that it delivers outstanding performance and
reliability for our mission-critical infrastructure."
Men Beglinger, Solution Architect, Swisscom IT Services
"The SPARC Enterprise servers announced today demonstrate the continuing innovation
of the SPARC/Solaris platform architecture."
Ted Stinson, Senior Director, Strategic Operations, Symantec Data Center Management Group
DBAG/Clearstream
"The tests DBAG/Clearstream conducted with the SPARC Enterprise beta platform demonstrated the scalability and SPARC 64 VI performance improvement that we required. DBAG/Clearstream will consider the SPARC Enterprise platform for further system consolidations,"
Willy Schockert Director, Head of UNIX and ICSD Infrastructure, DBAG/Clearstream Services S.A.
Find out how to create an energy efficient data warehouse that is certified to accommodate over 1 PB of structured and
unstructured data. Sun's reference architecture for the world's largest data warehouse shrinks storage footprint by 6x;
reduces CO2 emissions by 10x a year and reduces annual electricity costs by a factor of 10x.
The Sun SPARC Enterprise servers have generated world record breaking benchmarks. The Sun SPARC Enterprise M8000 server set a new SAP-SD World Record, is a 32-Thread Leader on SPECompM2001 benchmark and outperforms IBM p5 570 on SPECjbb2005 by over 34%. The Sun SPARC Enterprise M9000 server broke a Teraflop and set World Records for the
SPECompL2001 and SPECompLbase2001 benchmarks, as well as surpassing IBM p5 595 and HP Integrity Superdome on Stream benchmarks. See details on Sun SPARC Enterprise Benchmarks.
New Sun SPARC Enterprise systems are the fastest SPARC/Solaris OS servers, bringing mainframe-class availability and
partitioning to the open systems market. They're an ideal choice for virtualizing and consolidating web tier environments,
smaller databases and large-scale enterprise applications alike.
Unique, mainframe-class virtualization capabilities enable you to run up to 24 hardware partitions on a single server,
with more granularity than ever before, for complete isolation and control. Add to that the highly reliable and scalable
software partitioning features of Solaris 10 Containers, and you're talking about some the highest levels of utilization
and efficiency your datacenter has ever seen.

What's New - Solaris 8 Containers and Solaris 9 Containers Software
The Solaris 8 Containers or Solaris 9 Containers software and services accelerate the migration of application environments currently using Solaris 8 or Solaris 9 to new systems running Solaris 10. These new tools allow you to capture the entire environment of the Solaris 8 or Solaris 9 source system and then transfer this environment to the target Solaris 10 system without application modification or emulation. Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 Containers software is available as free download.
