Sun Enterprise Web Start will be for those who want to the capability of Solaris Jump Start but are less adept at UNIX. Q: What if I don't have the right browser or the required patches? How do I get them? A: We have made it easy to get the supported browsers and patches. Sun Enterprise Web Start server automatically determines which browser you have and will let you know if your browser is not supported. If you need the latest browser or the Netscape patch, both are available from the Sun Enterprise Web Start Server download web page. Q: Can I use the Netscape browser on my Solaris system to run Sun Enterprise Web Start Server? A: No. Supported browsers are Hot Java 1.1 or later for Solaris environments and Netscape Communicator 4.04 or later for Microsoft Windows 95 or NT 4.0 environments. Q: Is it supported on other browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer? A: We have tested and support the browsers listed above. Other browsers which provide full support for RMI and JDK 1.1 may work. Q: Does it handle OS upgrades? A: Sun Enterprise Web Start Server does not handle upgrades. You can re-create or modify the profile but the client data will not be preserved on the new install. Q: Can it handle more than one Solaris image? A: Sun Enterprise Web Start Server can run on Solaris 2.6 or 2.5.1 but we only support Solaris 2.6 install server images. Q: Can I create profiles of non-Solaris or co-packaged software? A: Sun Enterprise Web Start Server supports user-defined scripts which extend the profile functionality. Q: Is it fully localized now? A: Yes. A: Sun Enterprise Web Start Server is a complete product fully supported by Sun Service. It has lots of online help built in to assist you as questions come up. A: We are looking at adding support in the GUI to manage subnet boot servers. You can do this today manually with Sun Enterprise Web Start Server by using the add_client command within Solaris. A: No. Product can be exported under license exception: NLR (No License Required) to all countries, except Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan and Syria. Q: What about Year 2000 Compliance?
