The purpose of this Briefing is to review the field of Computational Biology (CB), to identify the IT challenges and opportunities, and to demonstrate that Sun provides a deep and broad product offering to address these challenges short-term, and an equally deep and comprehensive vision that will enable our customers and partners to attack these challenges and exploit these opportunities over the long-term.
Sun Grid Rack System
This Engineering-focused Technical Report focuses on the development of a Collaborative Grid environment for the purpose of Simulation-based Design. Simulation-based Design (SBD) is a process which involves modeling and simulation technology, in which simulation is the primary means of design evaluation and verification to ensure manufacturability of the product and its performance and is a phase-based process. This Technical Report describes these phases from a Distributed Collaborative Design (DCD) perspective, in line with the goals to be achieved in the Collaborative Engineering Project (CEP), but mainly focuses on the development of a Collaborative Grid environment for the purpose of Simulation-based Design.

Manufacturing industry has always been early adopters for at latest advancements in computational technology. And, as researchers and designers face the challenge of working across continents and time zones, it becomes more imperative to design framework compatible with new working environment and outsourcing trends. This document focuses on the Data Transport and Sharing infrastructure, designed as part of the Collaborative Engineering Project but can be more widely deployed for the Collaborative Manufacturing Industry.
Sun Grid Rack System
Scalable grid computing infrastructure is increasingly common mainstream technology that helps organizations anticipate and respond to technical and competitive pressures, providing the considerable computational power that organizations need to support their business or research.
Sun Fire Servers
This IDC whitepaper describes the benefits of the SPARC/Solaris platform from a vertical computing workloads perpective.
Sun StorEdge SAM-QFS software
Sun StorEdge SAM-QFS software can bridge the gap, opening databases to vast, inexpensive, removable-media storage for long-term warehousing of mission-critical data.
Sun Fire Servers
Sun Fire Enterprise servers demonstrate that Sun is ideally-qualified to deliver the benefits of chip multi-threading through its throughput computing strategy. With throughput computing, Sun Fire Enterprise servers, and the UltraSPARC IV processor, Sun provides up to twice the delivered throughput and compute density of previous-generation systems while maintaining a high level of investment protection for current and future customers of Sun technology.
