If you are not familiar with the Sun Fire X4600/X4600 M2 Servers, it may be helpful to review all the system documents available before the arrival of your system.


Step 1. Review the Server Installation Guide The Sun Fire X4600 and Sun Fire X4600 M2 Server Installation Guide provides information on how to install, rack, cable, and power on the system. The guide also covers connecting the service processor, determining network settings and configuring the pre-installed Solaris operating system.

Step 2. Review the Server Product Notes The Sun Fire X4600 Server Product Notes and the Sun Fire X4600 M2 Server Product Notes provide late breaking information on new features, additional software, and known hardware and software issues.

Step 3. Review the Operating System Installation Guide The latest information on supported operating systems for the Sun Fire X4600/X4600 M2 can be found here. The Sun Fire X4600 and Sun Fire X4600 M2 Server Operating System Installation Guide provides information on OS support, system preparation for OS installation, OS installation methods, and specific information for each of the following operating systems: Solaris, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 and 9, and VMware. Step 4. Obtain Appropriate Drivers The Sun Fire X4600/X4600 M2 Servers come pre-installed with the Solaris 10 Operating System. Please preview or download the latest firmware, drivers and software the Sun Fire X4600/X4600 M2 servers. You can find the appropriate documentation for a specific release on either the Sun Fire X4600 Server or Sun Fire X4600 M2 Server documentation web page.

Step 5. Embedded Lights Out Manager (LOM) If you choose to use the Embedded LOM in the Sun Fire X4600/X4600 M2 Server, please see the Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) Administration Guide for ILOM 1.1.1 for information on managing server accounts, monitoring alerts, remote access and redirection, component status and event logs. It also provides a brief overview of Sun N1 System Manager. Please also review the Integrated Lights-Out Manager (ILOM) Supplement for Sun Fire X4500 Server .
