Service Plans for Open Source Databases

Getting supported should no longer keep you from deploying open source databases as a low cost alternative in the enterprise. Customers can now purchase Sun Software Service Plans for the following open source databases:

Postgres on Solaris OS. Postgres is an open source database that is shipping with the Solaris 10 OS 6/06.

Java DB on Solaris, Linux, and Windows platforms. Java DB is Sun's supported distribution of the Apache Derby open source database.

These open source databases are supported by Sun Software Service Plans, which include two levels of support – Premium and Standard. Premium and Standard include either around-the-clock service for mission-critical deployments or extended business hour coverage.

Highlights

"My IT staff members are experts in their field. So, when they call vendors for technical support, it's critical, and not something on which we can wait a day. We wanted a vendor that we could rely on for expert OS support. That’s why we went with Sun."
