This online guide is designed to help you get the most of your SunSpectrum Service Plan. It will take you through a step-by-step process to help you get started, review the services to which you're entitled, and provide specific instructions on how to access information and receive support from Sun.

 
 
Online Resources - Login Access
Your Sun Online Account is the login used to access SunSolve, Sun Update Connection - Hosted, Sun Learning Center, Big Admin, the Sun Store, and other Sun sites to which you may have access. Your service plan and the features it includes are associated with your Sun Online Account. If you have logged in to any of these Sun sites before, you have a Sun Online Account.

If you don't already have a Sun Online Account, you can create one from any of the sites when you are asked to log in, or you can an account from SunSolve now. Creating an account is free. If you need to update your email address or other profile information for your Sun Online Account, you can do so from within the sites you visit after you log in.

  • Note: Some sites may ask for additional information about yourself or for your service contract number when you visit them for the first time.

Your Service Contract Number
Your service contract number allows you to access the services associated with your SunSpectrum Service Plan. Use your service contract number whenever you are asked for your support agreement number, entitlement token, subscription key, service plan number, or contract ID.

Get Started
With your service contract number ready, you will now be able to activate your access to the Sun support sites which are offered as features of your service plan. These online support resources and instructions on how to connect to these resources are outlined below:
    Connect to SunSolve
    The SunSolve knowledge base contains tips, tricks, and symptom resolution information for the majority of troubleshooting issues.
    1. Go to sunsolve.sun.com. Log in with your existing Sun Online Account, or register for one.
    2. Click Edit Account located in the right navigation on this page. Update your profile information here if necessary.
    3. Enter your new service contract number on this page.
      Note: If you already have a support agreement whose number appears here, compare the expiration date of the existing service plan with your new service plan and enter the number for whichever one expires later.

    Connect to Sun Update Connection - Hosted
    Sun Update Connection - Hosted keeps Solaris 10 up-to-date by providing access to all the latest fixes and features. You can opt for single-system local or multiple-system remote update management through the following mechanisms:

    • Sun Update Manager - A client-side application with a graphical user interface (GUI) and command-line interface (CLI) for locally managing updates on your system.
    • Sun Update Connection web application - A web application hosted at Sun for remotely managing updates on one or more of your systems.
    • Sun Update Connection Proxy - A local caching proxy server which serves updates from Sun to the client systems that are inside your enterprise security domain.

    Connect to Sun Learning Center
    Your Solaris Service Plan entitles you to some of the thousands of courses offered from the Sun Learning Center.

    1. Go to http://www.sun.com/training/sunspectrum.html. Log in with your existing Sun Online Account.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to migrate your account for training access.
    3. If you have any questions about activating your Sun Learning Center entitlement, click the "Contact Sun Training" link, which is located in the right navigation on this page.

    Connect to the Sun Online Support Center
    You can access extensive technical support information, submit service desk tickets, and check existing service requests online at the Sun Online Support Center.

    1. Go to www.sun.com/service/online and log in. Select your country as prompted on this screen.
    2. Click Online Account and select Link support contracts, which will take you to your online account.
    3. Enter your service contract number or support contract number. When your service request is created, you will be given a case number. This number is used within Sun to track your service request from origination to closure.

    Connect to Sun System Analysis
    Sun System Analysis is a proactive on-demand, internet-based service designed to enable customers to better manage their systems. The service continuously checks the reliability, availability, and serviceability of system hardware, software, operating system, network, and storage systems. By default, a report is created each month for each system. Sun System Analysis is available to SunSpectrum Platinum Service Plan customers only.

    To start using Sun System Analysis, simply install SRS Net Connect, click on the Sun System Analysis link and follow activation procedures.
