The Solaris Operating System (OS) provides enterprise level scalability, security, availability, and
performance on both x86 and Sun SPARC platforms. You can purchase
Solaris Subscriptions
for both platforms to run the Solaris OS in heterogenous environments under the same service levels. Solaris OS on x86 Hardware Compatibility Lists The x86 Hardware Compatibility Lists (HCL) provide information about general x86 processor architecture hardware requirements and the peripherals and system platforms that are certified for the Solaris OS. Sun Services provides support for Solaris OS on non-Sun x86 hardware systems and components.
If Sun determines that a problem is caused by the Solaris OS
and if the problem can be reproduced on any of Sun's x86 reference platforms for the Solaris OS
(called "Sun Certified" hardware at the x86 HCL)
Sun will provide support and
possible resolution of the problem in the same fashion and with the same limitations as
if the software were running on a Sun platform.
