SUN MICROSYSTEMS ENHANCES CLUSTERING TECHNOLOGY FOR E-BUSINESS-CRITICAL SAP SOLUTIONSSUN MICROSYSTEMS ENHANCES CLUSTERING TECHNOLOGY FOR E-BUSINESS-CRITICAL SAP SOLUTIONSSunPlexSystem Integrates Clustering Functionality with Solaris OE; Boosts Scalability, Availability and Manageability for Users of SAP Solutions
SANTA CLARA, CA -- October 16, 2001 -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced that SAP users can now run their mission-critical mySAP.com e-Business solutions on Sun Cluster 3.0 software for increased scalability, availability and manageability. The SunPlex clustering environment offers enhanced support for users of SAP® solutions through the new Sun Cluster 3.0 7/01 HA (High Availability) Agent for SAP solutions. Sun's advanced clustering technology continues to support and complement mySAP.com® e-Business solutions including mySAP Supply Chain Management, mySAP Customer Relationship Management, mySAP Product Lifecycle Management and mySAP Business Intelligence, as well as the technology of SAP-Markets, Inc., the exchange company of the SAP group. A SunPlex environment with the Sun Cluster 3.0 HA Agent for SAP solutions ensures even higher availability for the entire SAP application. If a node within the cluster goes down, others automatically take over the workload, reducing downtime and ensuring availability of critical applications. This provides the best end-to-end availability for SAP solutions because it is one of the only HA environments to monitor and fail over all components of the SAP infrastructure, from the SAP application servers to the central SAP R/3® system. Unlike competing products, Sun Cluster 3.0 software integrates clustering functionality into the Solaris 8 Operating Environment (OE) offering users of SAP solutions the strengths of a well-integrated operating environment that is comprised of Global Devices, a Global File Service, Global Network Services and Scalable Services. Vital to managing business critical environments, these features provide continuous network, data and service availability; the scalability inherent in the Solaris OE; and seamless integration with the Sun Management Center software for overall ease of management. Manageability is further enhanced with Sun Cluster 3.0 Resource Group Manager (RGM) software which provides a central point of control for cluster services. The RGM software simplifies administration by managing each system's resources within a cluster context. As a result, all cluster resources are efficiently managed and administered as if they were on a single system. "Availability is the cornerstone of a strong e-business offering. We've designed Sun Cluster 3.0's HA Agent for SAP solutions to maximize the strengths of the Solaris OE to offer continuous uptime, provide centralized management, and to enhance scalability that will keep key services available as a company grows," said Christoph Reisbeck, director, global SAP alliance, of Sun. "Customers will also benefit from easier, more centralized management and the confidence of knowing that their critical applications are powered by Sun." Key features of the SunPlex environment for SAP solutions include:
